About the position
We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Detector group in the NSS (Neutron Scattering System) division.
The Detector group is responsible for design, production, assembly, testing, installation, commission, reparation, and maintenance of the detectors and the peripheral systems. Now, the Detector group is expanding in its capacity to receive detector systems from ESS In-Kind partners as well as to produce ESS own detector systems for the delivery of ESS’ first 16 instruments.
As a Junior Detector Scientist summer worker your main tasks will be as following:
• Support assembly and testing work for novel MPGD neutron detectors
• Perform simulations of detector systems in ESS beamline
• Support development of software for readout and data analysis systems
About you
A suitable background for this position would be:
• Having bachelor’s degree in Physics
• Having hands-on experience with detector systems
• Familiar with simulation tools for particle or nuclear physics can be advantageous
• Good written and oral communication skills in English
• Minimum age 18 years.

Duration and location
This is a summer work position of 6 weeks.
Planned start date is July 1, 2026 or per agreement.
Your workplace is on-site at ESS in Lund, Sweden.
