Arbetsbeskrivning

As an Instrument Project Planner, you will create the conditions needed for work to be carried out efficiently - from breaking down work orders and assessing resource requirements to coordinating dependencies, following progress in the field and managing changes along the way. This role suits someone with experience from heavy or highly regulated industry, a solid understanding of instrumentation and the confidence to independently drive their area of responsibility forward.

About the position:

As an Instrument Project Planner, you will be responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of instrument-related work within a large-scale industrial project.

Much of your focus will be on reviewing and preparing the work orders included in the project. You will define the scope, break the work down into executable activities and ensure that technical documentation, resources and dependencies have been identified. This can include coordinating requirements for electrical and mechanical work, scaffolding, insulation and other supporting activities needed to complete the instrument work.

An important part of the role is understanding what the work will actually require in the field. Your planning needs to consider site conditions, required competencies and resources, as well as the sequence in which different activities need to be performed. The resulting work packages will form the basis for both contractor procurement and subsequent execution.

As the project moves into execution, your focus will shift closer to the work taking place in the plant. You will coordinate assigned resources and contractors, follow progress and ensure that work is performed safely and according to plan.

At the same time, you need to be comfortable working in an environment where conditions can change quickly. A work area may become unavailable, additional repair needs may be discovered or resources may need to be reallocated. In these situations, you will assess the impact, reprioritize activities and coordinate with the relevant disciplines to keep the work moving forward.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and prepare instrument-related work orders and work packages
  • Develop technical work descriptions for procurement and execution
  • Ensure work packages are complete, accurate and executable
  • Assess work scope, resource requirements and technical dependencies
  • Coordinate supporting activities from disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, scaffolding and insulation
  • Ensure planned activities are incorporated into the overall project schedule
  • Coordinate contractors and assigned resources during execution
  • Follow progress and ensure work is performed according to applicable safety requirements
  • Replan and reprioritize activities when conditions change
  • Manage discovery work as well as changes and additional work identified during execution
  • Follow up completed work packages and coordinate handover for inspection and quality control
  • Provide technical support and problem-solving throughout execution
Requirements:
  • Technical knowledge and a good understanding of instrumentation
  • Experience from major industrial projects, shutdowns or similar environments
  • Experience with technical planning and coordination of industrial work
  • An understanding of working within heavy, process-based or otherwise highly regulated industry
  • The ability to assess the resources, activities and dependencies required to execute technical work
  • The ability to independently manage and follow up your area of responsibility

It is considered an advantage if you have:

  • Experience from turnarounds or major planned maintenance shutdowns
  • Experience from refineries, process plants, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical manufacturing or other highly regulated industrial environments
  • Experience combining technical planning with coordination or supervision in the field
  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating work across several technical disciplines

To succeed in this role, you need to be self-driven and confident in your technical judgement. You should be able to understand a work scope, determine what is required to execute it and independently drive the next steps without relying on detailed direction.

You are structured in your planning but pragmatic when circumstances change. When unexpected issues arise, you can assess the situation, reprioritize and bring the right people together to find a way forward without compromising safety or quality.

The role involves close collaboration with technical specialists, contractors and other parts of the project organization, so you should also be comfortable communicating clearly and coordinating people around a common plan.
