Arbetsbeskrivning

We are looking for a postdoc to join our team at the Division of Quantum Technology, Department of Microtechnology and nanoscience. Become part of our innovative group and contribute to exciting research in Quantum limited amplifiers within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

About us

The https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/mc2/ advances the frontiers in quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics and future electronic systems - for technical and societal development. Our cross-disciplinary approach gives interesting collaborations in academy, industry and society, and is a driving force for innovations, results and breakthroughs. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities.

At the https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/mc2/research/quantum-technology/, we explore how quantum physics can unlock radically new ways of processing information - far beyond the limits of classical systems. Our research spans quantum computing, sensing, transduction, thermodynamics, and foundations, all aimed at harnessing the powerful behavior of light and matter at the quantum level. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities.

About the research project

We are seeking a postdoc for developing a near-quantum-limited microwave amplifier for readout in superconducting quantum computers. The position will focus on characterization of traveling wave parametric amplifiers at very low temperatures.

About the research project

The Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology is a 12-year project aimed at building a quantum computer based on superconducting circuits. A part of the project is addressing specific challenges related to this goal. One such challenge is to efficiently read out quantum information from qubits. To achieve this, a first-stage microwave amplifier with very low noise is required. Over the past five years, our group has been developing Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (TWPAs), and this project is a continuation of those efforts.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in physics or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience with cryogenic measurements of superconducting circuits, including microwave measurements

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree has been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Experience in nanofabrication

What you will do

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform research in close collaboration with the other people in the research group. The position does not include teaching but may include supervising master's students. The main task will be to measure and characterize TWPAs of different designs at cryogenic temperatures. Microwave measurements are typically in the 1-10 GHz range.

Contract terms

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
