Ericsson AB Join our Team About this opportunity: We invite applications for an industrial PhD (iPhD) position in the area of “Beyond Accuracy: Trustworthy Positioning Using 5G & 6G” at Ericsson Research in Stockholm, Sweden. The position is carried out in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF). As an industrial PhD you will be permanently employed by Ericsson while also enrolled in the doctoral program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH to carry out a research project leading to a doctoral degree. The doctoral studies are expected to take up to 5 years. After successful completion of the doctorate you will continue working at Ericsson Research as a Researcher - your employment with Ericsson continues without interruption. What you will do: Ericsson Research is developing next generation situational awareness technologies leveraging the power of future mobile communication systems. We believe trustworthy position information is essential for the efficient and safe operation of autonomous systems in complex environments. Current mass-market positioning systems cannot deliver credible self-assessment of the uncertainty in the positioning data. The objective of the PhD project is to enable trustworthy positioning as a service within future 6G networks by utilizing the network's ability to collect and process large volumes of positioning data across devices and environments. To achieve this, we will develop network-based learning of models of the sensing signals when used in different environments, scalable network-level information fusion methods that produce credible self-assessment of the uncertainty, and network-based methods for validating on-device-calculated position data. The primary expected outcomes are: * Methods for trustworthy positioning that can be integrated into future wireless networks. * Knowledge that can be used in the 3GPP standardization. * Increased knowledge transfer within the area between KTH and Ericsson. In this project you will have the opportunity to evaluate and demonstrate your solutions in Ericsson’s 5G/6G testbeds and use the state-of-the-art mobile robots. Research outcomes are expected to be published in peer-reviewed venues, and successful completion of the doctoral degree leads to continuation as a researcher at Ericsson Research. The skills you bring: *  MSc degree (or equivalent) by the start date in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Communications or similar. * Strong background in mathematical analysis, signal processing and machine learning. * Experience in Python or other related languages. Experience with Machine Learning frameworks such as PyTorch is a plus. * Fluent in written and spoken English. Great emphasis will also be placed on personal skills. In order to succeed as a industrial PhD student at Ericsson and KTH, you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their ability to: * Independently pursue their work. * Collaborate with others. * Have a professional approach. * Analyse and work with complex issues.
