Randstad Digital is currently seeking a Brake SW Lead for a consultant assignment at a global leader in sustainable mobility and rail transport solutions.

In this role, you will take on a lead position within embedded software development, focusing on complex brake control systems for major international transport and infrastructure projects. You will act as the key technical and organizational driver for the software lifecycle, steering cross-functional teams including system, control, validation, and safety engineers to deliver robust, high-performing embedded solutions.

Responsibilities

• Managing the complete development cycle of embedded software for brake control systems in compliance with project Quality, Cost, and Delivery commitments.
• Synchronizing functional interfaces and coordinating cross-functional collaboration between system engineers, control engineers, validation engineers, and safety/quality managers.
• Driving agile development workflows, managing software development planning, and aligning progress with overall project schedules and lab/vehicle testing needs.
• Ensuring commitment to internal milestones, actively managing critical paths, and leading software design and quality reviews.
• Representing software development in meetings with internal stakeholders and external clients.
• Monitoring, managing, and reporting progress, workloads, budgets, and engineering KPIs to the project engineering manager.
• Participating in safety audits with Independent Safety Assessors and managing open item lists for software certification processes.

Qualifications

We are looking for a proactive and structured software leader with deep technical insight into embedded systems and a passion for managing complex engineering deliverables. You thrive in cross-functional team environments, possess strong coordination skills, and can balance technical precision with project goals.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

• Extensive experience leading embedded software development projects within complex control systems or real-time applications.
• Proven experience working with agile development methodologies (such as Scrum) to structure, organize, and drive software activities.
• Solid technical background in software engineering, with a strong understanding of full lifecycle management from design to delivery.
• Strong communication skills with fluency in English, both written and spoken.

We'll be particularly impressed if you also have:

• Experience in traction control or brake system software development within safety-critical industries (e.g., rail, automotive, aerospace, or industrial automation).
• Familiarity with safety-critical software standards and participation in ISA (Independent Safety Assessor) audits or certifications.
• Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, powerlab, or train/vehicle integration environments.
