Would you like to help build the world’s best artificial heart – a technology that could save the lives of people suffering from severe heart failure? Scandinavian Real Heart (Realheart) is a Swedish company developing and manufacturing an artificial heart that mimics the anatomy and function of the human heart. In Västerås, where the company was originally founded, our team is working to take the technology from development to clinical reality. Realheart is listed on Nasdaq First North Growth and has recently announced its goal of being ready for implantation in its first patient in February 2028.

About the role

Realheart is strengthening its Engineering team ahead of the next stage in the company’s development. As a Mechanical Test Development Engineer, you will play an important role in developing test methods and equipment for a Total Artificial Heart.

This is an opportunity to join a company at the forefront of research within life-saving medical technology. You will contribute with your technical expertise in a collaborative team, where careful testing, continuous improvement and high-quality documentation are essential to moving development forward.

You will develop and implement test equipment and methods for medical devices, validate test methods, and perform testing within both R&D and production. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and internal and external stakeholders to ensure that testing is well planned, traceable and fit for purpose.

About you

You are an experienced engineer with a practical approach to test development and a strong interest in solving technical challenges. You are comfortable taking ownership of your work while enjoying close collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines. You have strong planning, prioritisation and coordination skills.

To succeed in the role, you combine analytical thinking with attention to detail and a structured way of working. You understand the importance of clear technical documentation, traceability and maintaining high-quality standards. You can plan, prioritise and coordinate your work effectively when several activities are running in parallel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical or a related engineering field
  • At least five years of industry experience, preferbly within medical devices or another comparably regulated industry, such as aerospace, automotive, rail, nuclear, defence or regulated pharma/IVD.
  • Enjoys and have solid hands-on experience of designing and developing test methods and test equipment.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, with attention to detail and traceability.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Realheart uses SolidWorks) and mechanical design.
  • Strong spoken and written English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience from the medical device industry or another regulated industry
  • Familiarity with FDA regulations (21 CFR 820), ISO 13485 and ISO 14971
  • Experience using design of experiments (DOE), quality assurance software tools and statistical methods
