Arbetsbeskrivning

Department of Marketing and Strategy (DMS)/Center for Retailing (CFR), Stockholm School of Economics

The Department of Marketing and Strategy at the Stockholm School of Economics invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in marketing, especially retailing.

Please note that this is not an open-rank search; we are specifically seeking early-career scholars for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates with a completed Ph.D. degree in Business Administration from an accredited university or business school (EQUIS, AACSB, or AMBA). The candidate must have completed their doctoral degree prior to taking up the position. As a candidate, you should have a research background in marketing with clear contributions in areas related to retailing (e.g., consumer behavior, strategy, analytics). You should also be interested in conducting research with practical implications for retail consumers and/or organizations.

The successful candidate is expected to thrive in an inclusive, methodologically and theoretically pluralist research environment that aims to contribute to both academic knowledge and a better society. Candidates will have demonstrable strengths in both research and teaching.

Your qualifications

Candidates will have the ability to publish in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals, such as AJG (4/4*) and those on the FT50 list. This will be evidenced by publications, research pipeline, and a documented presence in the international research community. Reviewing experience from relevant journals is a merit.

The candidates should have documented experience from teaching relevant courses at Bachelor and/or Master levels and must demonstrate teaching effectiveness as indicated by teaching evaluations, letters of recommendations and/or peer reviews. Experience from course directorships, designing courses, coaching student projects, and teaching in close collaboration with industry partners are considered merits. Teaching (in English) occurs at Bachelor, Master and Executive levels. Research and teaching are equally important and the candidate will be offered support and training in pedagogy.

Finally, candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to undertake administrative duties and play a full part in the intellectual life of the center, department and school at large.

Conditions

The tenure track period is 6 years, conditional on successful mid-term review after 3 years. Tenure evaluation takes place before the end of year 6 (at the latest), and successful evaluation leads to conversion of the tenure-track position into a tenured associate professor position.

The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty at SSE is 40%, typically corresponding to four courses per year. This load may be halved through external research grants. The position also offers an opportunity to exchange part of the teaching load for pedagogical research and development during parts of the the tenure-track period.

The tenure track position is located at the Center for Retailing/The Department of Marketing and Strategy. Financed through the Antonia Ax:son Johnson Tutorial Program, the candidate will be part of the core faculty in the BSc program in Retail Management run at the Center for Retailing. As such the candidate is expected to take an active role in tutoring students and integrating companies in teaching. Teaching will be important in the position, and the candidate will be offered continuous support and training in pedagogy. The candidate is also expected to engage in industry collaborations in both teaching and research, tapping into the wide network of partners at the Center for Retailing.

The expected start date for the position is August 2027, but we are open to discussing alternative start dates. Salaries are competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and are set on an individual basis.
