Would you like to contribute to this change, then join our fast-growing, highly competent and passionate team. AlfaWall Oceanbird AB is a 50/50 joint venture, owned by Alfa Laval and Wallenius but operated as an independent company. We are developing wing sail technology for the global shipping market and are now looking for an Installation Lead to join our team. Help us bring wind propulsion from shore to ship!
The roleAs Oceanbird moves from a prototype stage into commercial customer delivery, successful installation is becoming one of our most important capabilities.
As Installation Lead, you will turn plans and technical solutions into safe, efficient and wellcoordinated installations at shipyards and onboard vessels. You will also be responsible for our demonstrator wing in Landskrona, coordinating its operation, maintenance and test readiness so that it provides the data needed for our continued development.
You will be part of the Project Management Office and work closely with our project managers. During installations, you will lead a cross-functional team of approximately 3–8 people, including electricians, service engineers, technical specialists and external contractors.
The Project Manager retains overall responsibility for the customer project, while you lead the dayto-day installation activities and safe execution at the shipyard, in harbor or at sea.
Your main responsibilities:
• Plan, prepare and lead installation and commissioning activities at shipyards/harbour and onboard vessels.
• Translate project and engineering requirements into practical installation plans, work sequences, resource needs and schedules.
• Coordinate the on-site installation team and act as Oceanbird’s operational interface with shipyards, vessel crews, customers and subcontractors.
• Lead the safe execution of installation work, ensuring that risk assessments, work permits, toolbox talks and agreed safety procedures are in place and followed.
• Monitor progress, quality and safety, resolve practical issues and escalate risks or decisions when required.
• Develop and maintain installation procedures, method statements, SOPs, checklists and installation manuals.
• Capture lessons learned and use them to improve future installations, documentation and ways of working.
• Coordinate the operation, maintenance, inspection and test readiness of the demonstrator wing and its supporting equipment in Landskrona.
• Plan activities together with the Landskrona team and work closely with our teams in Flemingsberg to incorporate experience from installations and testing into our continued development.
Who are you?
You are a practical and confident installation leader who can bring people from different disciplines together, create structure and maintain focus on safety and delivery—even when conditions change.
You are likely to have:
• Experience leading installations, commissioning, service or major maintenance involving complex mechanical or electromechanical equipment.
Classified by Alfa Laval as: Business
• Experience from commercial vessels and shipyards, ideally involving bulk carriers, tankers or similar vessel types.
• Experience from newbuild projects and working closely with shipyards in Asia is highly valuable.
• A relevant engineering qualification within mechanical, marine, electrical or a related technical field. This could be a vocational, college or bachelor-level qualification, or equivalent experience.
• A strong understanding of safe working practices in shipyard, industrial or onboard environments.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
• The ability to produce clear and practical technical documentation, including SOPs and installation manuals.
• Professional proficiency in English and the willingness to travel internationally and work onboard vessels.
You are safety-conscious, structured and calm under pressure. You communicate clearly across technical disciplines and cultures and are comfortable moving between planning, documentation and hands-on execution.
Location and travelWe are open to discussing the location for the right candidate, although proximity to either Flemingsberg or Landskrona is preferred.
Regular international travel and periods of work at shipyards and onboard vessels are an integral part of the role.
What we offerAt Oceanbird, you will help turn a bold vision into working technology at sea. You will see the direct result of your work as our wing sail technology moves from development and testing to installation onboard commercial vessels—and ultimately into operation at sea.
This is an opportunity to shape not only how our first commercial installations are delivered, but how Oceanbird will install wing sails around the world in the future. Working alongside highly skilled and passionate colleagues, you will influence our installation methods, safety standards and ways of working—and contribute directly to making wind a powerful part of cleaner shipping.
