Position description

As a teaching assistant (amanuens) in microeconomics, you support the instructors primarily by leading group exercises and providing pedagogical support to students in introductory courses. You help students understand core economic concepts, develop their problem-solving skills, and gain a deeper understanding of calculations and other elements that are often perceived as challenging, while also encouraging reflection and independent thinking. You work closely with the lead instructors, observe student difficulties, and contribute to improving the flow of information and feedback within the course. Some administrative tasks related to the course may also be included. The role also offers the opportunity to deepen your subject knowledge and develop your communication and teaching skills.

Qualifications

Only those who are admitted to an education at first cycle or second cycle level at MDU may be employed as a teaching assistant.

The teaching takes place at the G1N level and is conducted in English. Consequently, well-developed communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are required.

Furthermore, the applicant should have received the grade VG or equivalent (B–A, 4–5) in the courses relevant to the position, i.e., the A-level microeconomics courses (NAA142 and NAA143).

The following qualifications are considered meritorious:

• Demonstrated proficiency in academic writing and oral communication in both Swedish and English.
• A strong interest in theoretical and empirical issues within the field of economics.
• Completion of the relevant courses (NAA142 and NAA143) at Mälardalen University.
• Prior experience with similar tasks or responsibilities.

We are looking for a teaching assistant who have:

• The ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way, both in writing and orally.
• The ability to understand and work with theoretical and empirical issues in economics.
• The ability to take responsibility and work independently.
• The ability to work effectively with both students and instructors, for example in teaching situations and course planning.
• The ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and contribute to consistency in teaching.
• A genuine interest in the subject and a willingness to support others in their learning, as well as the ability to identify and respond to students' needs.
• Serving as a supportive and motivating role model.
