About us
At our Human-Centered AI unit we conduct applied research addressing challenges in society and the transport sector. We work in a truly interdisciplinary way, where behavioural science meets cutting-edge expertise in maths, computer science and AI, in close collaboration with public sector, academia, and industry partners. The unit is organised around three areas of expertise:
• Applied Mathematics in AI‑based systems
• Computational modelling of human–AI collaboration
• Data Analytics and Explainable AI (XAI)
The role
We are looking for a Lead Researcher to drive our work on computational models for human–technology interaction in traffic and society. You will take a leading role in a European research project, where you will be responsible for coordinating the development of computational models in various traffic situations. Beyond this initial project, you will lead the development of new proposals for national and European funding (Horizon Europe, Vinnova, VR, and others), build consortia with academic and industrial partners across Europe, and grow a research line that fits naturally alongside our existing work. You will also strengthen the internal RISE network of computational modelling, mathematics and machine learning experts and contribute to establishing RISE as a recognised partner for industry and public agencies in this space.
Location is Gothenburg, and we follow a hybrid work model that allows you to split your working time between the office and your home workspace.
Since we sometimes work on security-classified projects, a security clearance may be required now or at a later stage.
Who are you?
You are a senior researcher in computational modeling who is excited by problems that are hard to solve, and who wants to do work that ends up in real products and services rather than only in papers. You are collaborative and team-oriented, thriving in environments where ideas are shared and developed together. You take initiative, stay proactive, and are naturally self-motivated in driving research forward. With strong communication skills, you navigate complex topics with clarity and confidence, explaining them as easily to engineers and behavioral scientists as to industry partners and funding agencies. You enjoy writing research proposals, and you see securing funding as part of the research process, not a distraction from it.
Requirements:
PhD in a relevant field. For example, computational mathematics, computer science, applied mathematics and machine learning.
At least 5 years work experience with a track record of independent research in one or several of these areas: applied mathematics, computational mathematics, data science, machine learning, deep learning, robotics, or computer science.
Demonstrated success as a principal investigator on at least one funded national or European research project (Horizon Europe or H2020) having played a central role in writing the funded proposal.
Academic level English corresponding to CEFR Level C1.
The following non-exhaustive list shows areas of expertise and abilities which are of particular interest for the position:
Research experience in transport, traffic, or mobility, ideally including collaboration with industrial partners (OEMs, suppliers, or operators).
Expert in probabilistic modelling, multimodal data fusion, machine learning for time-series and/or computational mathematics (e.g. numerical methods, optimisation, dynamical systems, or the mathematics of data science).
Experience working with drones or unmanned mobility is a merit.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Swedish.
Are we a good match?
Do you want to work in applied research projects that examine how AI and humans can work together? If great colleagues with a good sense of humour are important to you, we are a good match.
At RISE, we like to think differently, and we are convinced that diversity and a multi-disciplinary culture contribute to an innovative environment where we together challenge boundaries.
Welcome with your application!
If this sounds interesting and you want to know more, you are welcome to contact our Head of Human-Centered AI, Claudia Wege at [email protected]. The application deadline is April 23rd. Selection and interviews may take place continuously during and after the application period. Apply without cover letter.
