The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Technology is seeking associate senior lecturers to contribute to our growing activities. The position is located at the Division of Space Technology in Kiruna. The division offers a number of Master Degree programs in Space Science and Technology. The division conducts research in the areas of atmospheric science and space systems. The Space Systems group focuses on payloads, spacecraft and launchers for technology demonstration and utilisation as well as space applications and exploration in the upper atmosphere, Earth orbit and planetary space. The research and education activities are supported by high-quality infrastructure such as laboratory facilities for rocket propulsion, small satellites, asteroid engineering, and space avionics.
Subject description
Space systems includes systems for control, instrumentation and communication in the upper atmosphere and in space. Of particular importance are reliable, radiation resistant low-power electronic systems and miniaturization of these.
Project description
Luleå University of Technology will start an interdisciplinary regional development project linked to the “Campus Totalförsvar” initiative in 2026. The goal is to contribute applied and needs-driven research to various dual-use actors in Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties.
Duties
We like to welcome an enthusiastic and adaptable PhD candidate to join our interdisciplinary research group linked to research on space-related solutions to monitor and provide support for critical infrastructure like energy supply, water supply, resource allocation, logistics, production, and other elements of preparedness in relevant dual-use environments. The goal is to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure against disruptions in various crisis situations.
As a PhD student you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. Most of your working time will be devoted to your own research and studies. In addition, you may have the opportunity to contribute to teaching. As a researcher you will be involved in challenging research projects.
Qualifications
You must have a master’s degree or equivalent in in aerospace engineering or a related subject and previous experience in the field of small spacecraft missions (pico, nano or micro satellites) like in example design, development or operations of small satellite hardware or software. Applicants should also have good communication skills in written and oral communications in English language.
