Arbetsbeskrivning

What you'll do As an applied physicist, you will support the design, integration, and commissioning of front-end electronics systems across LHCb subdetectors (VELO, RICH, CALO) for the LHCb Upgrade II project, targeting demanding timing requirements. Your work will combine hands-on technical development - system integration, calibration, and module R&D - with harmonising timing approaches across subdetectors, working closely with CERN Electronics and Detectors Technology support groups, and the LHCb Online team. Your responsibilities Support system-level integration and commissioning of the electronics chain, working with subdetector experts and the LHCb Online team. Develop control software and calibration procedures for detectors in the LHCb electronic control system. Provide project-based support for PCB development, mechanical/cooling integration, and electronics infrastructure (LV, HV). Coordinate across LHCb subdetectors (VELO, RICH, CALO) to harmonise fast timing implementation at the front-end level, liaising with CERN Electronics support experts and the LHCb electronics coordinator. Contribute to R&D on module integration and cooling. Your profile Experience of commissioning and operation of detectors of large particle physics experiments. Experience in the whole signal treatment chain from front-end electronics to readout and control electronics, including high-speed signal processing and transmission. Experience of the HL-LHC experiments common electronic components (lpGBT, VTRx+, bPOLs, etc.) is a plus. Experience with fast timing detectors and precision timing systems. Experience in PCB design and module prototyping. Experience in developing and testing detector modules, including mechanical integration of the electronics and cooling. Good knowledge of low voltage and high voltage distribution systems for large particle detectors. PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Physics or Electronics or a related field. Your skills Simulation, design and development of (parts of) detectors. Testing and validation of detectors. Assembly and integration of detectors. Layout of electronic circuit boards. Organisation, planning and control. Has a structured and organised approach towards work; is able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind. Builds and maintains constructive and effective work relationships. Takes initiative beyond regular tasks and makes things happen. Readily absorbs new techniques and working practices; proposes new or improved ways of working. Presents information accurately and objectively. Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French. Employment conditions Shift work, and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation. Work in Radiation Areas. Interventions in underground installations.
