Arbetsbeskrivning

We are looking for a postdoc to join our international team with a broad research focus from functional materials, electrode processing, to the high performance batteries. Become part of our innovative group and contribute to exciting research in aqueous rechargeable zinc ion battery from electrode materials to the final battery pack under the collaboration with other international academic and industrial partners.  About us  The Department of Industrial and Materials Science at Chalmers University of Technology, shares knowledge and their vision of technical solutions for the future industry in a sustainable society. Through excellent research, innovation, and education, we contribute to the development of future industrial value chains.  In the division of Materials and Manufacture you’ll join a friendly, international team passionate about shaping the future of materials and production. Our research spans innovative materials, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable solutions – always with real-world impact in mind, and with strong ties to industry. If you are interested in working experimentally and making a difference in the areas of materials and manufacturing, we look forward to receiving your application.  About the research project   The project is an EU-level collaboration with six partners in Austria, Germany, and Sweden, aiming to develop advanced zinc-based batteries for stationary energy storage. Energy storage is essential for the widespread use of renewable energy, given its intermittent and variable nature. While lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been highly successful in powering electric vehicles, they face major challenges in large-scale grid applications. Their high cost, reliance on critical elements, and energy-intensive production processes make them less sustainable for stationary use. In this role, you will contribute to the synthesis of high-performance cathode materials, binders for zinc-ion batteries, and develop sustainable electrode manufacturing technologies. You will prepare aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion battery cells, which will then be delivered to international collaborators to assemble into battery packs for practical applications.   Who we are looking for  The following requirements are mandatory:  • A doctoral degree, or an equivalent foreign degree, in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.   • Experience in zinc-ion battery and pouch cell fabrication. • You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English. The following experience will strengthen your application:  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. • Experience in sustainable electrode processing and binder development. What you will do  • Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform your own research in the labs and fabricate the battery cells. • You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing in English.  • Supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. • Collaboration with international academia and with industrial partners. The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.  Contract terms   The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.  The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.  What we offer  • As a postdoc at Chalmers, you are an employee and enjoy all employee benefits.
