Arbetsbeskrivning
Ecophi is digitializing the electrical grid.
Our QMU 800 is a high-precision, software-defined merging unit used in modern digital substations.
We’re looking for a hands-on engineer who loves low-level embedded programming, board bring-up, and working side-by-side with hardware to ship robust, real-time systems.
What you’ll do
- Develop and optimize low-level firmware in C (bare-metal/RTOS) for data-acquisition, time-sync, and high-speed I/O on QMU 800.
- Write device drivers (SPI, I²C, UART, Ethernet), DMA/ring buffers, and ISR-driven data paths for high-resolution ADCs.
- Implement and harden substation protocols/time sync (e.g., IEC 61850 Sampled Values/GOOSE, PTP/IEEE 1588); contribute to PQ/PMU features.
- Board bring-up & hardware validation: read schematics, probe signals, characterize performance with scopes/logic analyzers.
- Collaborate with hardware on Altium Designer projects; review schematics/PCB layouts; suggest SI/PI-aware changes and test points.
- Build automated tests, HW-in-the-loop rigs, calibration flows; contribute to CI and coding standards.
Must-haves
- Solid experience with embedded C for microcontrollers/SoCs (interrupts, timers, peripherals, memory, concurrency);
- Comfortable with low-level debugging: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, power measurements;
- Very comfortable working in linux environments;
-
Strong grasp of data acquisition basics:
ADCs, sampling theory, filtering, fixed- vs floating-point trade-offs;
- Git-based workflows and disciplined engineering habits (reviews, documentation, reproducible builds).
Nice-to-haves
- FPGA experience (VHDL/Verilog);
- Altium Designer familiarity and the ability to read/modify schematics & PCB designs (basic layout understanding);
- EMC/robustness for industrial gear (IEC 60255/61850-3), secure boot/DFU, factory test fixtures
- Python for test automation; CMake; static analysis.
Why EcoPhi
Ecophi is a startup located in Gothenburg, founded by researchers at Chalmers University of technology.
We have a deep technical core and strive to deliver solutions that are best in the industry.
- Build cutting edge technological products used by leading utilities to modernize the grid;
- Hardware lab with proper tools, real field feedback, and fast iteration;
- Competitive pay, stock options, flexible work, and big ownership over your domain.
How to apply: Send your CV/LinkedIn, transcript and a short note about a low-level project you’re proud of (what you optimized, how you measured it) to [email protected] with the subject “Embedded Engineer — QMU800”.
