About the role as Credit Risk & Underwriting Analyst
As a Credit Risk & Underwriting Analyst at Kustom, you’ll play a crucial role in protecting both Kustom and their merchants by turning complex financial information into clear, data-driven credit insights. You’ll assess the financial health and default risk of merchants, determining when to approve, delay, or secure payouts — balancing business growth with sound risk management.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze financial statements, cash flow, and balance sheet health to assess merchants’ financial stability and repayment capacity.
• Identify early warning signs of insolvency or business deterioration through quantitative and qualitative indicators.
• Evaluate probability of default (PD) and determine appropriate mitigation strategies — such as delayed payouts, rolling reserves, or enhanced monitoring.
• Conduct underwriting reviews for new and existing merchants, ensuring adherence to internal credit policies and risk appetite.
• Collaborate with Risk and Sales teams to balance commercial opportunities with prudent credit discipline.
• Maintain and enhance credit assessment models, underwriting processes, and risk frameworks.
• Prepare and present clear, data-backed credit recommendations to senior management and credit committees.

You have a strong foundation in credit risk or underwriting and can translate data into meaningful business decisions. Qualifications:

• Proven experience in credit risk, underwriting, or financial analysis — ideally within a PSP, acquirer, bank, or fintech.
• Strong ability to interpret and stress-test financial statements and identify early indicators of distress.
• Familiarity with merchant risk management, including exposure monitoring and loss mitigation tools.
• Solid understanding of payment flows, reserves, rolling settlement models, and PSP risk policies.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and sound commercial judgment.
• Excellent communication skills in English; Swedish is a plus.

Nice to have:

• Experience developing or refining credit models or risk scorecards.
• Exposure to transaction-level risk monitoring or merchant exposure analytics.
• Understanding of sector-based risk patterns, chargeback exposure, and cash-flow volatility within merchant portfolios.
