FinEstBeAMS beamline
FinEstBeAMS is a materials and atmospheric science beamline at the 1.
5 GeV storage ring at MAX IV Laboratory. It provides ultraviolet and soft X-ray radiation with precisely controlled and widely variable parameters. The beamline has two branches: one branch is dedicated to ultra-high vacuum studies of surfaces and interfaces and the other to gas-phase experiments and photoluminescence in solids. The range of research extends from the electronic structure studies of free particles (atoms, molecules, clusters, and aerosol particles) in gas phase and on surfaces to formation analysis and nanoscale characterisation of surfaces and interfaces. The design of the beamline facilitates sample transfer between the end stations, offering synergy between gas phase and solid-state research.
MAX IV is looking for a PostDoc for a three-year position to work as a part of the surface science group of MAX IV Laboratory, specifically assigned to the FinEstBeAMS beamline. The candidate will participate in the maintenance and operation of the beamline and the solid-state end station.
In this role, the candidates' tasks will consist of, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Taking an active part in research projects at the solid-state end station, both in collaboration with others as well as independently
- Performing maintenance work at the solid-state end station
- Participating in development of the solid-state end station
- User support and training of visiting researchers
- Taking part in maintenance and operation of the beamline
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science or similar area of relevance for the FinEstBeAMS
- Strong interest and sufficient skills in formulating and driving research projects, performing data analysis and preparing scientific publications
- Experience in using ultra-high vacuum systems
- Proven experience in VUV / soft-X-ray photoemission, or photo-absorption spectroscopy of surfaces and interfaces
- Data analysis and computing skills
- Willingness for user support
- Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team
- Good command of the English language, both spoken and written
The following are considered as merits:
- Experience in working at a synchrotron radiation facility either as a user or a member of the staff
- Experience in other spectroscopic techniques, such as angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy
- Mechanical and electronics skills
- Concrete and clear ideas about research and / or development projects that the candidate would like to undertake during the postdoc period
Eligibility
Appointment to the position of postdoc requires that the applicant has a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the application deadline. Under special circumstances the PhD can have been completed before the aforementioned three years.
Further information
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment. A postdoctoral fellow is employed under a period of at least two years and at most three years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor-2022-02-01” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow, 2022-02-01”).
