Luleå University of Technology represented by the Division of Space Technology located above the polar circle in Kiruna conducts research in atmosphere and planetary sciences, and space system engineering together with graduate and postgraduate education. In close proximity, two other research organisations are located, e.g.  the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) and EISCAT Scientific Association. IRF conducts experimental and theoretical fundamental research and postgraduate education in space physics, atmospheric physics, and space technology. IRF also has a national responsibility for observatory activities in space physics. EISCAT Scientific Association conducts ionospheric and atmospheric measurements with radars. The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), with its Esrange Space Center, provides science, engineering, launch and operational services for international space market. The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Technology is seeking a senior lecturer to develop the research and education activities at the Division of Space Technology in Kiruna. The division is an internationally diverse team of around 25 academic staff and PhD students. We strive for courage, openness, and trust in our daily work and communications. Our daily activities are supported by high-quality infrastructure such as laboratory facilities for systems testing and rocket propulsion, small satellites, asteroid engineering, and spacecraft avionics. You will be working in the Space System group which focuses on payloads, spacecraft and launchers for technology demonstration and utilisation as well as space applications and exploration in the upper atmosphere, Earth orbit, and planetary space. Subject description Space systems include systems for control, instrumentation, and communication in the upper atmosphere and in space. Of particular importance are reliable, radiation resistant low-power electronic systems and miniaturization of these. Duties As a senior lecturer in space systems, you will conduct research in the field of nano satellites and are involved in teaching topics like on-board data handling, spacecraft computer systems, space electronics, satellite communications. To realize your research, you will attract the external funding from the Swedish national and international organizations. You will be working with the leading international space companies and agencies, users of space technologies, universities, and research institutions. You will also disseminate the research achievements by publishing in the international well-recognized journals and presenting at international conferences. You will also supervise PhD students and teach MSc courses. Qualifications Qualified for an appointment as senior lecturer are those who: • have been awarded a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific qualifications; • have demonstrated teaching expertise; • have completed courses in higher education pedagogy corresponding to 7.5 credits or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge. Other assessment criteria, in order of priority; • Ability to deliver and communicate research results in the above-mentioned subject area as evidenced by a strong publication record • Exhibited ability and proficiency in interdisciplinary research collaboration and leadership • Demonstrable expertise in remote sensing or numerical modelling related to planetary science • Exhibited ability and proficiency in attracting external research funding • Ability to communicate and teach in English Information The position is located at the Division of Space Technology, Luleå University of Technology in Kiruna.
