Northern Sweden is a European space region with several major players collaborating in space technology and space science. Luleå University of Technology (LTU) represented by the Division of Space Technology located in Kiruna conducts research in atmosphere and planetary sciences, and space system engineering. In close proximity, two other research organisations are located, e.g.  the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) and EISCAT Scientific Association. The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), with its Esrange Space Center, provides science, engineering, launch and operational services for international space market. The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Technology is seeking an associate senior lecturer to develop the research and education activities at the Division of Space Technology. Our daily activities are supported by high-quality infrastructure, laboratory facilities for systems testing and rocket propulsion, small satellites, asteroid engineering, and spacecraft avionics. You will be working in the Space System group which focuses on payloads, spacecraft and launchers for technology demonstration and utilisation as well as space applications and exploration in the upper atmosphere, Earth orbit, and planetary space. Duties As an associate senior lecturer, you will conduct research at the Kiruna Space Campus in spacecraft control (relating also to GNC, and AOCS) with frictionless platforms and electromechanical manipulators, Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation and concurrent engineering, as well as nano satellites. In this role, you will develop your vision and your own research line related to the space systems. To realize your research, you will attract the external funding from the Swedish national and international organizations. You will be working with the leading international space companies and agencies, users of space technologies, universities, and research institutions. You will also disseminate the research achievements by publishing in the international well-recognized journals and presenting at international conferences. You will also supervise PhD students and teach MSc courses. Qualifications Eligible to be hired as associate senior lecturer is the one who has completed a doctorate or have a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctorate. In the first instance, one should be considered for employment who has completed a doctorate a maximum of five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been passed earlier. Special reasons mean leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trust assignment, or similar circumstances. Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to this position: - scientific expertise Other assessment criteria: - administrative proficiency that is of value in view of the subject matter and the duties included in the appointment - the ability to collaborate with the wider community - the ability to obtain external research and development funding - the ability to communicate research and development work - the ability to teach in Swedish and/or in English. Period of employment For this employment, an employment period of four years applies. Promotion to senior lecturer An associate senior lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to university lecturer (senior lecturer) and employed until further notice if he/she has the qualifications for an appointment as a senior lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such employment according to the assessment criteria set out below. The examination requires that the associate senior lecturer has undergone pedagogical education equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. In addition, during the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer shall independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills. Other grounds for assessment (weighted equally) - Successful demonstration of granted research funding - Scientific excellence through published scientific works - Teaching capabilities, either through participating into teaching or course developments.
