Data center

The Data center & Cloud operations team in Vattenfall is responsible for all infrastructure on-premise and cloud based operations. IT in Vattenfall has a "cloud first" strategy. Due to laws and regulations, among other things, this is not 100% possible. As a result, we also have a fair amount of applications that needs to retain in our own on - premise data centers.

Your Job as Data Protection Engineer

As an engineer for data protection in the Data Center & Cloud operations department you will work on all kind of data protection technologies (backup, high-availability, ransomware protection, etc.) and its surrounding infrastructure.

You will be in a position to decide if data protection infrastructure should be adapted or optimized and to manage changes in the infrastructure. You will represent our Data Protection Engineering team towards different market players (vendors) and analysts (e.g. Gartner).

Your key activities as Data Protection Engineer will be:

• Act as our department expert regarding data protection, backup/restore related services and their components
• Coordination and execution of tasks for service lifecycle management (planning, installation, upgrade and decommission)
• Drive solving Data Protection related incidents and planning, execution of changes and cause analysis of problems
• Design of infrastructure, based on application specific requirements

Qualifications

Your Profile as an Data Protection Engineer

Do you like to work with a high focus on security at all costs in our setup and designs? Then this might be your job! Our ideal candidate would bring:

• Experience working with (Enterprise) Back-up and Data Protection technologies in a larger (international) setting
• Engineering knowledge in storage and backup Infrastructure
• A bachelor Degree in a relevant field
• Knowledge in NetWorker backup applications and PowerProtect Data Manager
• Hypervisor based (VMware) backups
• General infrastructure knowledge (server, backup, network)
• Good understanding of IT security and automation processes
• Knowledge/experience in cloud platforms and technologies
• Understanding of core/edge technologies and mapping to data protection architecture

Location:

You will be part of the IT organization, spread over multiple locations in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Denmark. This team specifically is located in Katowice, Stockholm, Hamburg, Berlin and Amsterdam. You can choose to be located in any of the above cities. Some travel between these locations might be part of the job. Some travel and cooperating in on on-call scheme will be part of the job.
