Your new job

We’re looking for a QA Engineering Leader who wants to solve complex, real-world problems to make life at home simpler. Join us on our journey as we level up our technology to enhance everyday experiences. Your primary focus will be on leading and continuously refining the quality and test automation approach within Range experience together with the other Software Engineering Leaders and Specialists.

You will also be sharing your work in the wider Range Areas and you’ll report to the Quality Platform QA Manager. The impact of your work will touch homes and hearts around the world.

On a typical day, you will:

• Develop QA test plans and define acceptance criteria for both built and purchased software solutions.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead QA activities to ensure testing is executed effectively and delivered on time.
• Coach and mentor members of digital product teams on QA frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
• Drive clarity, consistency, and quality in requirements across product and platform teams.
• Champion test data creation, mocking, and test automation as the preferred testing approach, always balancing cost, value, and efficiency.
• Provide coaching and constructive feedback to engineering and platform communities to strengthen quality practices and a quality-first mindset.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and platform leaders to ensure features are implemented with quality assurance built into the delivery process.
• Support product and platform teams in working in a decoupled way to improve software quality and enable effective interface-level testing.
• Act as the subject matter expert on specialist QA disciplines such as performance testing, penetration testing, and high-availability assurance when needed.
• Support Engineering Managers in follow-ups, reviews, and quality discussions with consultancy partners.

You bring extensive experience and knowledge in software development and are fully familiar with agile/DevOps practices and tooling, and how the quality aspect is an integrated part of the development. Ideally, you have experience in building test automation frameworks and building their usage in an organization of cross-functional product teams.

You are an experienced leader with the ability to coach our product teams, testers and developers alike around test automation as an integrated part in software development, helping to ensure that we use our resources in the best way to achieve the strongest outcome.

You enjoy an agile, iterative and structured way of working and achieving results together with a team in a flexible environment but also have a strong individual drive to deliver high-quality results on time. You have great communication and networking skills and are fluent in written and spoken English.

The role as a QA Engineering Leader requires you to:

• Hold a degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Have at least 2 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Have at least 5 years of hands-on experience working with QA processes, testing methodologies, and QA tooling.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of modern digital product development principles, including aligned autonomy, Conway’s Law, product decomposition, DevOps, automation, blue-green deployments, and automated regression testing.
• Coach and support engineering teams in adopting quality-first ways of working and embedding quality throughout the development lifecycle.
• Advocate for early defect prevention through practices such as automation, clear requirements, and decoupled architectures.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels, both verbally and in writing.
• Be a trusted subject matter expert in quality assurance, providing guidance on specialist QA approaches when needed.
• Have experience of building and maintaining modern test automation frameworks for web using Playwright, Cypress or similar, including custom framework design in JavaScript/TypeScript with deep CI/CD integration via GitHub Actions

It’s a plus if you also have experience with:

• Using Sentry, Splunk or similar tools for monitoring and real-time error tracking
• Procurement processes and quality assurance of off-the-shelf or SaaS solutions.
• Non-functional requirement (NFR) quality assurance and performance testing practices.

This position is based in the QA Platform of Inter IKEA Range Operations. Business platforms are new at Range and will support products to be more efficient.
