Overall Purpose

The Nuclear Engineering & Safety lead is responsible for leading Blykalla’s nuclear engineering and safety activities in the US. The role ensures, in coordination with the corresponding organization in Sweden, development of technical licensing documentation for the DOE or NRC as well as on-site leadership with respect to operational nuclear safety and radiation protection at developed sites. The role plays a key part in positioning Blykalla as a world leader in lead-cooled SMR technology, through an active and efficient deployment of our reactors in the US.

Key Responsibilities

Team Development & Leadership

• Build and lead a high-performing US team within nuclear engineering, safety, radiation protection, and nuclear waste planning by defining local roles and responsibilities, and providing organizational clarity.
• Mentor and empower team members, ensuring professional growth and high-quality delivery.

Licensing & Regulatory Interface

• Implement and coordinate technical work related to nuclear safety licensing in the US, in close cooperation with the corresponding Swedish organization.
• Coordinate and facilitate nuclear safety & radiation protection audits at developed US sites.

Nuclear Safety Basis

• Lead and develop our local US nuclear engineering & safety team to ensure progress, coherence and quality in both our global nuclear safety case and in the specific US design basis of our reactors.
• Participate in nuclear design reviews and approvals, ensuring US regulatory compliance and integration with overall plant design.

Partnerships & Networks

• Represent Blykalla in interaction with local regulators, potential clients and investors.

Who you are

• At least 5 years of experience in managing teams within nuclear engineering, safety or licensing.
• Knowledge of nuclear safety analysis methodologies (deterministic and probabilistic), reactor physics, or nuclear systems.
• Strong leadership skills – you inspire, coach, and grow high-performing teams.
• Proven track record of regulatory interaction and delivery of associated nuclear safety cases.
• A collaborative and strategic mindset, enabling efficient navigation of the interface between technology development and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of Swedish or other Scandinavian languages is a plus.
