Job Description
The client is seeking a PA/QA Engineer specializing in Harness & Electrical Assembly to support high-reliability electrical hardware within the space industry.
The position focuses on workmanship inspection, electrical harness quality, and Product Assurance/Quality Assurance activities in accordance with ECSS and relevant IPC standards.
The successful candidate will have a strong practical understanding of electrical harness systems, including routing, shielding, integration, assembly, soldering, and crimping.
The role carries significant responsibility for workmanship acceptance and quality decisions in a high-reliability space environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and approve soldered electrical assemblies and connections in accordance with ECSS-Q-ST-70-61.
- Monitor and provide quality support for crimping and electrical harness assembly activities following ECSS-Q-ST-70-26.
- Serve as the inspection authority for soldering, crimping, electrical assemblies, and harness workmanship, including making accept/reject quality decisions.
- Provide guidance and practical support to ECSS-certified operators regarding workmanship and applicable quality requirements.
- Work with Category 3 soldering and Category 2/3 crimping activities and support operators in maintaining required standards.
- Track, support, and follow up on Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) in line with applicable ECSS procedures.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, suppliers, subcontractors, customers, and Product Assurance/Quality Assurance teams.
- Ensure electrical hardware and harness assemblies meet the required reliability, workmanship, and quality standards.
- Contribute to inspection planning, quality assurance, testing, and validation activities where required.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Certification for inspection of soldered electrical assemblies according to ECSS-Q-ST-70-61 – Inspector Level, Category 2/3.
- Alternatively, certification in IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3, combined with demonstrated inspection authority.
- Ability and willingness to obtain ECSS Inspector Category 2/3 certification where applicable.
- Practical understanding of electrical harness design and routing principles.
- Knowledge of cable routing, shielding, harness integration, and electrical component assembly.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and schematics is desirable.
- Knowledge of relevant ECSS-Q-ST-20 quality assurance principles.
- Familiarity with ECSS-Q-ST-10 Product Assurance Management.
- Understanding of ECSS-Q-ST-10-09 non-conformance control and NCR management.
- Knowledge of the ECSS-Q-ST-70 series covering materials, mechanical parts, and processes.
- Working knowledge of ECSS-Q-ST-70-26 for crimping.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 for electronic assemblies.
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 for cable and wire harness workmanship.
- Experience or knowledge in inspection planning, quality assurance, testing, and validation.
