Assignment Description

We are looking for an experienced Database Engineer with strong PostgreSQL expertise to support a large-scale and time-critical migration initiative. The organization plans to migrate approximately 250 applications from Oracle RAC to PostgreSQL within one year.

You will join an established database team of 10 people, which has strong Oracle expertise and now needs additional deep PostgreSQL knowledge. You will work closely with the database team and development teams throughout the migration process.

Approximately 80% of the assignment will focus on migration activities, while 20% will involve reviewing and improving the existing database setup.

The role is primarily a specialist and support function where you will act as a knowledge carrier, advisor, and problem solver. Strong teamwork and the ability to actively share knowledge are essential.

What You Will Work On

• Support the migration of approximately 250 applications from Oracle RAC to PostgreSQL.
• Provide deep PostgreSQL expertise and address differences between Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Work closely with database and development teams throughout the migration process, from component migration through production.
• Ensure accuracy, performance, and compatibility during migrations.
• Act as a PostgreSQL specialist, advisor, and problem solver.
• Document migration experiences and lessons learned.
• Define and document database migration best practices.
• Review the current database setup and recommend improvements.

What You Bring

• Minimum 5 years of PostgreSQL experience with strong practical expertise.
• Very strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and modern PostgreSQL versions.
• Previous experience with database migration projects.
• Experience with Linux.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Very good English communication skills.
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
