Gemkom Engineering and Machinery Filial is a newly established branch of the Turkish company Gemkom.
It is a leading engineering and manufacturing company that operates in a number of areas and in various ways within the steel industry.
We are participating in a project where Stegra AB establishes a steel mill in Norra Svartbyn in Boden where steel will be produced through an almost fossil-free process using hydrogen gas.
Our mission is, among other things, to install machines used in steel production and includes work in mechanics, electronics and plumbing.
We now want to employ Painters.
The work tasks may include but are not limited to:
Job Description
- Perform surface preparation activities including cleaning, degreasing, grinding, power tool cleaning, and preparation of surfaces prior to coating application.
- Verify that surfaces are free from oil, grease, rust, dust, moisture, and other contaminants before coating application.
- Conduct visual inspections following blasting operations and assess surface cleanliness in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
- Prepare, mix, and apply single-component and two-component coating systems in accordance with manufacturers’ Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and project specifications.
- Operate and maintain airless spray painting equipment and associated tools safely and effectively.
- Apply protective coating systems including epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primers, and other industrial coatings using spray, brush, and roller methods.
- Monitor and record coating application parameters, including Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements.
- Monitor environmental conditions such as ambient temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity, and dew point to ensure compliance with coating application requirements.
- Identify coating defects including runs, sags, orange peel, pinholes, insufficient film thickness, poor adhesion, and other quality issues, and carry out corrective actions when necessary.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, coating specifications, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Coordinate with quality control inspectors and supervisors during inspection and testing activities.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of paints, coatings, thinners, and related materials.
- Maintain painting equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project quality initiatives.
- Comply with all company, client, and site-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Desirable qualifications (not mandatory)
- Proven experience in industrial painting, protective coatings, or corrosion protection projects.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating application techniques.
- Experience operating airless spray painting equipment and performing routine equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of industrial coating systems including epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich coatings, and related protective coating products.
- Ability to understand and apply paint manufacturers’ Technical Data Sheets (TDS), coating specifications, and work procedures.
- Experience performing WFT and DFT measurements and maintaining coating records.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring requirements during coating applications.
- Ability to identify coating defects and implement corrective measures.
- Experience working alongside quality control inspectors and within quality management systems.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and project specifications.
