Arbetsbeskrivning

About Us At the Electric Power Systems unit, our project portfolio consists of research and innovation projects that combine technical perspectives - how electric power systems should be built, managed, and operated - and economic perspectives, including the development of the electricity market, regulation, and policy issues. In addition to our research projects, we also handle various customer assignments. Our projects range from short-term to multi-year engagements, often in collaboration with colleagues from other units within RISE as well as external national or international partners.

RISE is an independent, state-owned research institute that contributes to a sustainable transformation with analysis and solutions through creating and executing research, innovation, and development projects in collaboration with companies, universities, institutes, and the public sector.

The Electric Power Systems unit comprises 14 researchers, engineers and project managers who enjoy collaborating and co-creating value. We represent several different nationalities, and our projects extend both within and outside the borders of Sweden. Half of the team is based in Gothenburg and the other half in Stockholm. The location for this position is in either Gothenburg or Stockholm.

About the Role

We are now looking for an aspiring researcher who wants to help strengthen RISE's ability to create and drive projects in areas that address the challenges of the electric power system and electricity market. We offer a dynamic and inspiring work environment with a wide range of tasks, including problem-solving, method development, simulation and modeling, analysis, project management, as well as sharing knowledge and findings through presentations, publications and reports in one of the most important transition areas of our time. The role offers opportunities to explore new areas and to initiate and develop innovative project ideas and collaborations towards enhancing both the short- and long-term performance of the power system and electricity market, supporting the transition to a sustainable energy system.

Who Are You?

As a person, you are analytical, creative, and open to new challenges. Being able to independently carry out tasks and projects comes naturally to you. The work will involve a variety of contacts with external project partners and customers, so it is central that you are communicative and have a customer-oriented mindset. It is valuable to have a good understanding of future societal challenges and of relevant stakeholders within the electric power system. It is also considered an advantage to have an interest in, and understanding of, the current and future needs for research and innovation in the electric power system.

Mandatory requirements:

  • You have a master’s degree in Electric power engineering

  • Experience with commercial power system simulation tools, such as: PSSE, PowerFactory, or PSCAD

  • Programming skills in Python or Matlab

  • In depth knowledge of the electric power system

  • Good communication skills in Swedish and English

Other requirements that are wanted but not mandatory:

  • Experience from working within the field of electric power engineering

  • Conducted a master thesis in close collaboration with a grid operator / energy company or other relevant industry

  • Good understanding in electricity markets, market design, regulation, and/or electricity market modelling

Are we right for each other?

At RISE, we like different and we are convinced that diversity contributes to an innovative environment where we together challenge boundaries and develop new knowledge for the future. With us, passionate problem solvers meet to solve some of the world's most important, and perhaps fun, problems. We can not promise you an easy job, but what we can promise you is a bunch of committed colleagues and some really exciting societal and industrial challenges to tackle. You will work in a dynamic environment that gives you development opportunities both professionally and personally. With us, you get the opportunity to make a real difference. Welcome to the research institute and innovation partner for the entire of Swedish.
