Shape the future of education technology

IST is mid-transformation. We are moving from legacy product lines built over decades to a unified platform that already serves over five million users across the Nordics and Germany — and that we are building to scale into new markets. We know where we are heading. We are building it now, using a strangler-fig migration pattern, a micro-frontend portal, a shared component library built on Vue 3 / PrimeVue, and a three-layer architecture spanning Runtime Core, Experience Layer, and Integration and Data Layer.

The Enterprise Architect role exists to make this transformation succeed — on a horizon we can defend in board meetings and deliver against quarter by quarter. You will work alongside our existing Platform Council and senior engineers, and you will own the architectural direction across products and markets, present and future.

IST builds digital tools that connect schools, teachers, students, and families across the Nordics and Germany, with active expansion into additional markets ahead. Our buyers are municipalities and public authorities under public procurement law (LOU/LUK and equivalents). Our users are educators, administrators, and families. The separation between buyer and user is structural, and it shapes how we build, how we sell, and where the architectural decisions land.

About the role

These are the key responsibilities:

• Shape and continuously evolve the long-term architecture vision for the platform, ensuring it supports both product strategy and a multi-market environment.
• Lead the Platform Council, guiding discussions and decisions while ensuring alignment with agreed architectural principles.
• Drive the overall direction for modernization, including the gradual retirement of legacy systems and the transition to a unified platform.
• Define clear, pragmatic principles for system design, integrations, and APIs—balancing scalability, simplicity, and real business needs.
• Foster strong alignment between architecture and team setup, ensuring the organization is structured to deliver effectively.
• Ensure that architectural decisions meet relevant regulatory and compliance requirements across markets.
• Establish a solid foundation for how AI is leveraged in both our products and development practices.
• Build and nurture architectural capability across the organization, supporting engineering teams in their growth.
• Stay curious and forward-looking by evaluating and introducing new technologies, frameworks, and ways of working where they add value.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure architectural decisions translate into real impact in delivery and customer value.

Your profile

We believe you have the following competence profile to succeed in this role:

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in software development, including substantial time in architectural leadership roles in complex, multi-product environments.
• A proven ability to design and scale platforms across multiple markets, balancing local regulatory needs with a unified core and enabling international growth.
• Hands-on experience guiding organizations through platform transformation, including legacy modernization and migration strategies.
• A solid understanding of how AI is reshaping software development, combined with the ability to set practical guardrails for sustainable and maintainable solutions.
• Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., EdTech, healthcare, fintech, or public sector), with familiarity with key European frameworks seen as an advantage.
• Track record of driving architectural decisions in environments with strong product and sales dynamics, not only in engineering-led companies.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both senior stakeholders and engineering teams. Fluency in English is required; Scandinavian language skills are a plus.
