Lead Backend Developer – Digital Key Cloud

Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a Lead Backend Developer – Digital Key Cloud, to strengthen our team in Gothenburg.

Scope of Role

Responsible for end-to-end ownership of cloud backend development for Digital Key solutions, including design, implementation, security, scalability, and continuous delivery. The role supports secure car-to-phone communication via cloud and delivery of CCC Digital Key V4 features aligned with OEM requirements.

The Project

“Digital Key” Feature Design and Integration for an OEM. This project aims to design, develop, and operate a secure, scalable Digital Key cloud platform that enables seamless vehicle access and control via smartphones and connected services. The solution supports end-to-end car-to-phone communication through cloud systems, ensuring high security, reliability, and compliance with industry and OEM standards.

Area of Responsibility

• Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of the Digital Key ecosystem, including design, implementation, integration, testing, and validation.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-native Digital Key applications
• Develop in-house cloud software supporting Digital Key lifecycle (issuing, sharing, revocation, entitlements)
• Implement CCC Digital Key V4 use cases
• Support cloud migration activities
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment
• Manage release planning and controlled deployments
• Write testable, thread-safe, maintainable code with unit and component tests
• Create and execute automated test cases
• Perform peer code reviews and enforce coding standards
• Design scalable architectures and perform capacity planning
• Conduct security assessments and implement data protection measures
• Implement encryption for sensitive data (in transit and at rest)
• Actively engage in Agile teams, pull tasks from backlog, and collaborate cross-functionally
• Oversee the implementation of cryptographic systems and certificate-based authentication to ensure data security and access control.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Digital Key features with other vehicle systems, such as infotainment and telematics.
• Ensure all Digital Key features meet CCC standards and participate in the certification process to achieve interoperability and security benchmarks.
• Lead the end-to-end design of certification processes for compliance with CCC standards.
• Lead the discussions for the development of a secure and scalable cloud-based DK backend.
• Create technical architecture, documents, compliance reports and specifications for system wide implementation.

SKILLS

• 10+ years of experience in backend and cloud development, with strong exposure to Digital Key or connected vehicle platforms

• Strong expertise in modern Java backend development

• Hands-on experience with Digital Key or connected vehicle cloud platforms

• Proven experience in cloud development on AWS

• Deep understanding of cloud-native and microservices architectures

• Experience implementing Digital Key lifecycle services (issuing, sharing, revocation, entitlements) • Knowledge of CCC Digital Key V4 specifications and related use cases

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (Jenkins, Git, Jira)

• Ability to write thread-safe, testable, and maintainable code

• Strong experience with unit, component, and automated testing (GTest/Mock or equivalent)

• Knowledge of Python development for cloud and backend services

• Experience with secure systems, including encryption and data protection

• Strong understanding of scalability, performance, and capacity planning

• Comfortable working in Agile development environments
