Arbetsbeskrivning

What you'll do As a Polymers and Composites Technician, you will become part of the Polymer Laboratory within the Superconducting Magnet Technology (SMT) Section, contributing directly to the development of cutting-edge systems and components at the heart of CERN accelerator complex. In this hands-on role, you will be involved in the manufacturing of superconducting coils and other critical components, applying advanced composite techniques such as vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM), bonding, and prepreg processing. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development and optimisation of innovative materials and fabrication methods, pushing the boundaries of performance and reliability. Your responsibilities Contribute to the operation of the Polymer Laboratory by manufacturing key components for the CERN accelerator complex and experiments, and supporting on-site interventions for troubleshooting and repair of complex systems. Participate in the construction of superconducting magnets, including the operation and maintenance of polymer processing equipment such as vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) systems. Support the development, characterisation, and testing of polymer materials and composite solutions for a wide range of applications, including the fabrication of mock-ups and prototypes. Prepare and maintain manufacturing procedures and work instructions to ensure high standards of quality and traceability in production processes. Handle the procurement of materials and tooling for the Polymer Laboratory, and maintain the chemical inventory in compliance with safety and quality requirements. Your profile Hands-on experience in polymers and composites processing, including bonding and gluing techniques. Experience in the operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment used in resin transfer or similar processes. Ability to develop and adapt manufacturing techniques, tooling, and mock-ups for first-of-a-kind applications. Experience in producing and updating technical documentation. Construction and assembly of mechanical and hydraulic systems will be an asset. Proficiency with mechanical workshop tools and conventional (non-CNC) machining techniques will be an asset. Experience in procurement follow-up and inventory management (components, tooling, spare parts) will be an asset. Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Material Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field. Your skills Knowledge and application of manufacturing methods and work preparation: , including inventory and procurement follow-up of components and tooling, QA/QC and related procedures. Operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and systems. Manufacturing of mechanical parts: using conventional machining tools. Knowledge, application and processing techniques of polymers and composites. Works well in groups and readily fits into a team; participates fully and takes an active role in team activities. Takes responsibility for own actions and decisions. Adapts quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements. Listens actively to others and lets others speak. Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language. Medical hazard Exposure to carcinogens, mutagens or agents toxic to reproduction. Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. Employment conditions A valid driving licence. Shift work, stand-by duty, and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
