The opportunity
The Senior HVDC Civil Design Interface Lead is a senior global governance role within the Plants, Civil and Digital Engineering organization at Hitachi Energy HVDC.
You will be responsible for defining and enforcing global standards, frameworks, and best practices for civil design and construction interfaces, enabling predictable delivery of HVDC projects worldwide in terms of time, cost, and quality.
You will provide global oversight and governance, supporting project teams and partners to ensure civil engineering deliverables are aligned, contractually robust, and executed with minimal risk of delay, dispute, or claim.
Through trusted leadership and a collaborative approach, you will drive consistency, embed lessons learned, and continuously improve how civil design interfaces are managed across the HVDC portfolio.
To succeed in this role, you bring a governance‑focused mindset, balancing technical expertise with commercial and contractual judgment to safeguard Hitachi Energy’s interests in complex partnerships.
This role is based in Västerås or Ludvika, Sweden.
How you’ll make an impact
- Shape and maintain clear, robust contractual frameworks for civil design and construction in collaboration with partners and subcontractors.
- Work closely with legal, procurement, and project teams to strengthen contract clarity and reduce the risk of claims and disputes.
- Ensure that constructability insights and execution requirements are reflected in contracts and translated into clear engineering deliverables.
- Own the global framework for civil design interfaces, ensuring alignment with construction needs and site realities.
- Support and guide constructability reviews and standardized design handovers, leveraging BIM and digital tools where appropriate.
- Act as a global escalation point for complex or systemic civil design–construction interface challenges.
- Build strong, trust‑based relationships with partners and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with standards and expectations.
- Support regional project teams by providing governance, guidance, and oversight on civil-related interfaces.
- Drive a proactive approach to risk management and claim prevention, embedding lessons learned across projects globally.
- Strengthen long-term internal capability by promoting trainings, mentoring digital solutions, and continuous improvement.
Your background
- Strong experience in civil or structural engineering from large scale energy or infrastructure projects.
- Background in leading civil design and construction interfaces across multidisciplinary, international teams.
- Comfortable shaping clear and robust civil scopes that support smooth construction delivery.
- Good understanding of constructability and design handover from engineering to site.
- Familiarity with BIM and digital ways of working as tools for collaboration and clarity.
- A thoughtful approach to risk awareness and claim prevention in project delivery.
- Experience setting standards and best practices while supporting teams globally.
- A collaborative communicator who balances technical insight with commercial awareness.
