We are looking for an innovative and collaborative Lead AI Engineer (Data Science and Analytics Lead) to join our AI Innovation team at Nordea. You’ll design and build scalable AI solutions, focusing on Agentic AI applications that drive value across the organization while ensuring ethical and sustainable development practices. This position is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working location based in Helsinki, Finland, Gdansk / Gdynia / Warsaw, Poland, Copenhagen, Denmark, or Stockholm, Sweden.

What you’ll be doing

Main responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

• Design, develop and scale transformative AI applications from concept to production, to create technology that makes a real impact
• Build innovative generative AI applications that solve meaningful problems, partnering with cross-functional teams throughout the development lifecycle
• Connect AI systems with vector databases, APIs and existing systems to build cohesive solutions
• Drive exploration of emerging AI tools and frameworks; share insights and build proof-of-concepts
• Partner with engineers and product teams to translate business needs into practical AI solutions
• Champion ethical, safe and sustainable AI practices throughout the development lifecycle & across the organization

Who you are

You bring a growth mindset, collaborative problem-solving skills and excel at transforming complex technical concepts into clear solutions for both technical and non-technical audiences.

We're looking for someone with most of the following experience and skills:

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent practical experience
• 5-7+ years’ experience architecting, developing and deploying applications or AI/ML solutions in production environments
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in Python and experience building scalable, maintainable codebases
• Experience developing Agentic AI systems, including autonomous agents with reasoning, planning and task execution capabilities
• Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) for connecting AI models with external data sources
• Experience designing and implementing advanced AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical teams and business stakeholders

It would be ideal if you also:

• Bring knowledge of agent testing methodologies, performance monitoring and maintaining agent reliability in production environments
• Have experience leading technical projects and mentoring team members
• Have an understanding of AI agent alignment, safety measures and ethical AI deployment in enterprise environments
• Have professional experience working in regulated industries, i.e. Banking, Government, etc.
• Have knowledge and familiarity with EU AI Act and other relevant AI regulations
