Your opportunity

We are looking for a senior engineer with expertise in mine closure for Boliden's Department of Mine Waste and Water Management. You will work broadly with issues related to mine closure and extractive waste management along Boliden’s entire value chain. From planning of operations in close cooperation with exploration, to support for our actively producing units, to facilities that are planning to be closed and facilities in need of additional closure measures.

Who you will work with

You will become part of a dedicated and collaborative team of colleagues with diverse expertise. The team includes development engineers, senior engineers and an environmental coordinator as well as specialists working with social sustainability, land use and community relations. Together you support Boliden’s operations along the entire value chain and contribute to long‑term, responsible waste management and mine closure practices. The work environment is characterized by knowledge sharing, cross‑functional cooperation and a strong commitment to sustainable development.

What you will do

In this role, you will work broadly with mine closure and extractive waste management across Boliden’s value chain. Your responsibilities include:

• Supporting business units in developing plans related to extractive waste management (Waste Management Plans, Closure Plans, Water Management Plans, Waste Characterisation Plans and more)
• Developing governing processes and instructions for extractive waste management in close collaboration with subject matter experts
• Facilitating internal and external reporting related to extractive waste management
• Performing quality assessments of estimated closure costs
• Acting as project manager for projects within extractive waste management
• Conducting business intelligence and contributing to Boliden’s strategic programs for sustainable waste management
• Coordinating internal networks to support knowledge transfer between units and projects

The position is based in Boliden and includes occasional business trips with overnight stays to Boliden’s mining sites. Hybrid solutions with work at another location may be possible.

What you bring

Required qualifications

• Education: A university degree in engineering or earth sciences with relevant specialization.
• Experience: Experience from the mining or extractive industries, either directly or as a consultant, together with strong project management skills.
• Skills: Result oriented, structured and good at planning and prioritization. Strong problem-solving ability and solid collaboration skills.
• Language: Professional proficiency in English, language skills in Swedish, Finnish and/or Portuguese is an advantage.
• Driver’s license: Valid EU Category B license.

• Designing cover systems for closure of sulphuric mine waste
• Geochemical modelling tools
• Linking geochemistry with water and recipient models
• Water management
• Closure cost estimation
