Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you an experienced simulation engineer with a strong background in exhaust aftertreatment systems and catalyst modeling? Do you enjoy working with high-fidelity models that support real product development within the automotive industry? Then this could be an interesting opportunity for you.
ALTEN is now looking for a
1D SIMULATION ENGINEER to support one of our clients within the automotive industry. In this role, you will contribute to model-based development of exhaust aftertreatment systems, supporting both software development and calibration activities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a 1D Simulation Engineer, you will work with the development, calibration, and validation of high-fidelity EATS models. The focus is on
GT-POWER AND SIMULINK, where you will build and maintain models representing catalyst systems and exhaust components under realistic operating conditions.
You will integrate these models into a broader simulation environment used by software developers and calibration engineers, enabling concept evaluation, feature development, and virtual calibration. The role combines deep technical modeling work with close collaboration across system, software, calibration, and test teams.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, maintain, and enhance 1D exhaust aftertreatment models in GT-POWER and Simulink
Model catalyst systems such as DOC, DPF, SCR, ASC, mixers, sensors, and thermal components
Calibrate and validate models using data from engine dyno, rig, and vehicle testing
Perform parameter identification related to reaction kinetics, thermal behavior, soot loading, and regeneration
Integrate models into a Simulink-based system simulation environment
Support software and calibration teams with model-based analyses and simulations
Participate in root-cause investigations and technical problem solving
Document modeling and calibration methodologies
YOUR PROFILE
You are a structured and analytical engineer with strong domain knowledge in exhaust aftertreatment systems. You enjoy combining theory with real test data and are comfortable explaining complex technical concepts to different stakeholders.
We see that you have:
Master’s degree (PhD is a plus) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Applied Physics, or similar
Solid experience in EATS simulation and catalyst systems (mandatory)
Hands-on experience with GT-POWER and MATLAB/Simulink
Strong understanding of catalytic chemistry and aftertreatment performance
Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and chemical kinetics
Experience working with test data from engine or rig environments
Very good communication skills in English
Meritorious:
Experience with alternative fuels (e.g. HVO, hydrogen)
Experience with automation using MATLAB or Python
Familiarity with version control systems (Git, SVN, or similar)
Experience from heavy-duty engine or emissions development
