Arbetsbeskrivning

Core mission The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research. As part of the ILL's Projects and Techniques Division, the Design, Calculations and Construction Service is responsible, among other things, for modelling, designing and producing complex assemblies for projects being carried out in the Institute's Science and Reactor Divisions. Your tasks In this role, you will be responsible for performing neutronics and photonics calculations for the analysis; dimensioning and validation of nuclear and radiological systems (installations, equipment, biological shielding) in the framework of design, operation and safety projects. . Perform neutronics and photonics calculations using Monte Carlo codes (in particular MCNP). . Model complex geometries in 3D and define the associated nuclear materials. . Perform criticality calculations, neutron and gamma flux calculations, dose and biological shielding calculations, reaction rate calculations and neutron balance calculations. . Analyse technical requirements and specifications. . Analyse, interpret and verify the coherence and validity of calculation results. . Participate in the validation and verification of models and mechanical design studies. . Contribute to the drafting of nuclear safety and radiation protection documentation. . Prepare calculation reports, technical reports and summary documents and present the results to the project teams. . Ensure that calculations comply with the applicable standards, guidelines and regulations. . Provide expert technical support to the nuclear safety, mechanical design, health physics and reactor operations teams, particularly during design and decision-making phases. Your profile . Level 7 qualification (Master's degree or equivalent) or PhD in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering or a related field. . 2 to 5 years of experience in neutronics calculations is desirable. . Experience of working in a regulated nuclear environment would be appreciated. . Strong background in neutronics and reactor physics. . Proficiency in radiation physics (neutrons, gamma rays). . Good knowledge of Monte Carlo calculation methods. . Basic knowledge of radiation protection and nuclear safety. . Scientific rigour and sound analytical skills. . Ability to perform calculations independently. . Ability to summarise information and to write technical documents.
