AI Sweden is the national center for applied artificial intelligence, funded jointly by the public and private sectors. Our mission is to accelerate the use of AI to strengthen society, enhance competitiveness, and benefit everyone living in Sweden. A key part of this mission is tackling major research and innovation challenges together with our partners.
We are now looking for a Senior Machine Learning Research Engineer to join our team in Gothenburg. The team works broadly within AI security and advanced machine learning, including privacy-preserving ML, AI Security, computer vision, multimodal learning, and the interplay between algorithms and infrastructure.
About the positionAs a Senior ML Research Engineer at AI Sweden, you will contribute to research, experimentation, and development at the intersection of safe, trustworthy, and high-performance AI.
One of our flagship initiatives is LeakPro, an open-source project aimed at detecting and mitigating information leakage in machine learning models. Read more: https://www.ai.se/en/project/leakpro-leakage-profiling-and-risk-oversight-machine-learning-models
Through LeakPro and related efforts, we explore questions such as:
How can we systematically measure and reduce unintended information leakage in ML models?
How do we build open, reproducible tools for evaluating model vulnerabilities and attack vectors?
How can we design and train generative and multimodal models with privacy, integrity, and security at their core?
While privacy-preserving machine learning is an important initial focus, the role can be broader. We seek candidates who want to contribute across several of our current and future research and innovation projects in ML.
Typical tasks may include:
Reviewing and implementing cutting-edge ML research
Developing and evaluating ML models, attacks, privacy enhanching technologies and defenses.
Designing and maintaining open-source tools, benchmarking frameworks, and pipelines
Supervising MSc thesis students and collaborating closely with partner organizations
Contributing to new project proposals and research/innovation initiatives
Fast Experimenter – adept at prototyping and evaluating new ML methods.
ML Systems Thinker – experienced in building reproducible, robust, and scalable ML pipelines.
Data Versatile – hands-on experience with at least two data modalities, e.g., images, text, tabular, or time-series.
Ethics- and Security-Aware – strong interest in privacy, model safety, and secure deployment practices
Strong debugging and refactoring skills in large research codebases.
Familiarity with differential privacy is a plus.
Requirements
