Mullvad VPN is a Swedish VPN company dedicated to fighting mass surveillance and censorship. We do this primarily through our VPN service and our privacy-focused web browser. Over the years, we have been pioneers when it comes to VPN technology and we intend to remain trailblazers. We’re looking for a Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. The Infrastructure team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of OS deployment, Proxmox clusters, monitoring infrastructure, backups, and related core services. We deliver a stable, scalable, and secure platform that empowers other teams to build, deploy, and operate their services on.

• Develop and maintain Mullvads platform and OS deployments

• Designing infrastructure under the assumption that everything is hostile

• Keep systems boring, fast and hard to break

• Review code with a “How could this leak data?” mindset

• Have 5+ years of experience as a Linux sys admin or similar

• Deep understanding of Linux systems

• Experience with Python or Go

• Experience with monitoring and metrics

• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized environments

• Good communication skills in English

• Humble and team-oriented mindset

• Have a love–hate relationship with Ansible

• Like backend or infrastructure work more than buzzwords

• Understand networking well enough to be suspicious of it

• Care about security, privacy and threat models - not just feature velocity

• Prefer simple solutions over “clever” ones

Hands-on experience with tools and platforms such as Ansible, NetBox, Proxmox, PostgreSQL, Grafana, LibreNMS, CI/CD pipelines, and HashiCorp Vault. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Anycast/BGP, and authoritative DNS solutions (Bind9, Unbound) is a strong plus.
