The Institute of Health and Care Sciences conducts education and research with a focus on care, health and people’s living conditions. Research at the Institute spans a wide range of areas but shares a common foundation in person-centred care. The Institute is nationally and internationally leading in person-centred care, an approach that permeates education, research and collaboration with health care services. The Institute educates registered nurses, radiographers, specialist nurses and midwives, with the aim of meeting societal needs for competent and committed health care professionals.
The Institute is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and is located at the Medicinareberget Campus, in close proximity to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The environment is characterised by interprofessional collaboration, clinical relevance and high academic quality. Approximately 1,200 students are enrolled in professional health care programmes at undergraduate and master’s level.

Subject area description
Health and Care Sciences is based on a humanistic view of the individual and generates knowledge about caring in relation to health, ill-health and disease. The subject encompasses the preservation, promotion and restoration of health in relation to the individual’s life situation, the biological body and socio-cultural aspects. The subject is grounded in an ethical approach that involves meeting patients and relatives as persons in partnership to promote health. In addition, informal care and support are studied, as well as the organisation of health and social care services, care settings and environments, and the conditions and prerequisites for individual and population health and care.
Duties
The duties include conducting high-quality research within the subject area of Health and Care Sciences, in line with the Institute’s strategic research strengths. The position also involves actively applying for external research funding and providing support to junior researchers within the subject area. The role includes research communication, encompassing dissemination, accessibility and utilisation of research.
Teaching within the subject area at all levels is included, undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level, where the applicant’s professional experience is to be applied in relevant teaching contexts. Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students is part of the role.
The successful candidate is expected to teach in Swedish or another Scandinavian language as well as in English.
Applicants who do not have higher education pedagogical training is expected to complete such training within one year of starting the position.
For promotion, the applicant is required to have acquired proficiency in Swedish, both written and spoken, at a minimum of level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), no later than six months before the expiry of the employment as Associate Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor). The University of Gothenburg will provide Swedish language courses, which are mandatory as part of the employment.
