The group is expanding with new projects, teaching and collaborations and is now offering a position as a Junior Research Engineer.
Project description
In recent years, large language models (LLMs) and foundation models have become central tools for enabling advanced reasoning, text generation, and multimodal understanding. Applied AI takes these technologies out of the laboratory and turns them into pedagogical, industrial, and societal solutions. The position is situated within the intersection of AI and education, where novel machine-learning methods, particularly LLM-based systems, are explored and implemented to support teaching, learning, and educational innovation.
Duties
• Working on research and development projects related to applied AI for education, with a strong focus on designing, integrating, and evaluating LLM-based pedagogical tools (e.g., within AI4Edu and similar initiatives).
• Implementing prototypes and software solutions that support intelligent tutoring, personalized feedback, automated assessment, and other AI-driven educational applications.
• Developing APIs, pipelines, and integration layers between LLMs and learning platforms (e.g., LMS, interactive learning tools, digital course environments).
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a research engineer, you must have completed a relevant education in artificial intelligence or computer science. Documented skills in programming (e.g., Python), machine-learning frameworks, and practical work with LLMs or AI toolchains are strong merits.
Assessment Criteria
The following assessment criteria apply to the position:
• Scientific and technical expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, LLM integration, and AI-driven educational technologies.
• Experience working in research or development projects, particularly those related to AI applications or educational innovation.
• Practical experience in software development, prototyping, and working with students in lab- or project-based environments.
• Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary teams and contribute to pedagogical experimentation and educational research.
