We'll start the recruitment process in January, but please feel free to apply before then.

Building a satellite requires a broad range of expertise, involving the analysis, design, manufacturing, and testing of both hardware and software. At OHB Sweden, we offer engineers an exceptional opportunity to expand their technical skills across all domains.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Thermal Engineer with space experience in the complete chain from early design iterations to final product, testing and integration of a complete satellite system.

Collaborating with external partners (customers, payload suppliers, etc.) to define and implement mechanical and thermal interfaces will be an integral part of your daily responsibilities.

Your Tasks:

  • You will be responsible for the thermal design, modelling and analysis of sub-system or system level deliveries to national or international customers, Including model correlations, requirements verifications and sensitivity studies.

  • Proven experience within ESATAN is a requirement.

  • You will also have a leading position in the definition, procurement and testing of thermal related hardware – for instance MLI, heaters, coatings, TVAC testing and thermal verification. Which means you will be part of both the analytical and practical side of spacecraft thermal engineering!

  • As a result, it is desirable that you have experience from the full life-cycle of space thermal engineering starting from feasibility analysis (Phase A) through Preliminary Design (Phase B) and project implementation (Phases C/D/E).

  • A few example projects you can expect to work on are complete small spacecraft missions, propulsion sub-systems to ESA science missions, and robotic mechanisms for various spacecrafts.

  • Having a lead role on design of thermal and mechanical components using CAD and ESATAN, focusing on conduction, radiation and mechanical analyses.

  • Lead technical discussions with customers and suppliers.

  • Supervise off-site manufacturing of parts and inspect delivered items.

  • Support on-site assembly of end products, such as thermal hardware.

  • Define and design test specifications, procedures, and setups for subsystem qualification.

  • Assist in planning and budgeting for future programs and projects.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Space Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in in space thermal engineering

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams and/or groups, driving projects forward.

  • Experience using ESATAN/Thermica

  • Experience in procurement, integration and testing of space thermal hardware

  • Experience within ESA/NASA projects.

  • Good knowledge of the ECSS.

  • Clear and coherent reporting and presentation skills in English.

  • Experience in design-to-manufacture processes.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

  • Located in or willing to relocate to Stockholm, Sweden.

Added Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing test procedures for Thermal space campaigns

  • Experience in requirements management and verification.

  • Knowledge of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) and experience in the space industry.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A structured, motivated, thermal engineer with proven leadership abilities.

  • Ability to work independently while meeting agreed delivery schedules.

  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.

  • Ability to plan and drive the success of our projects.

If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of space technology and eager to contribute to innovative satellite projects, we would love to hear from you!

If you wish to have an active role in the development of future space systems, feel confident that your experience and qualifications match the above requirements and want to find yourself in a dynamic and inspiring work environment, then we very much look forward to hearing from you!

Why Join Us?

Join us and thrive in a dynamic, international environment with diverse collaboration partners across Europe, while expanding your technical expertise from thermal design to system engineering. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team of system, electrical, mechanical, and AIT engineers, contributing to the development of cutting-edge satellites. In addition, you’ll take a leading role in customer and supplier discussions, gaining valuable experience in managing relationships both within and outside OHB Sweden.
