Arbetsbeskrivning

OHB Sweden is a leading Swedish supplier of space systems. We develop, build, test and commission satellites and subsystems for space missions in, for example, communication, earth observation and space research for institutional and commercial customers within and outside Europe.

Building a satellite requires a broad range of expertise, involving the analysis, design, manufacturing, and testing of both hardware and software. At OHB Sweden, we offer engineers an exceptional opportunity to expand their technical skills across all domains.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with space experience in the complete chain from CAD mechanical design, FEM analysis, and generation of production drawings to follow-on testing of the manufactured product.

Collaborating with external partners (customers, payload suppliers, etc.) to define and implement mechanical interfaces will be an integral part of your daily responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A structured, motivated, mechanical design engineer with proven leadership abilities.

  • Ability to work independently while meeting agreed delivery schedules.

  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.

  • Ability to plan and drive the success of our projects.

If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of space technology and eager to contribute to innovative satellite projects, we would love to hear from you!

If you wish to have an active role in the development of future space systems, feel confident that your experience and qualifications match the above requirements and want to find yourself in a dynamic and inspiring work environment, then we very much look forward to hearing from you!

Task Description:

  • Having a lead role on design of mechanical, structural, and dynamic components using CAD and FEM, focusing on stress, shock, and random vibration analyses.

  • Oversee the generation of manufacturing drawings from CAD models, using GPS tolerancing.

  • Lead technical discussions with customers and suppliers.

  • Supervise off-site manufacturing of parts and inspect delivered items.

  • Support on-site assembly of end products, such as spacecraft structures.

  • Define and design test specifications, procedures, and setups for subsystem qualification (structures, mechanisms, units, components, actuators).

  • Correlate FE models (e.g., fundamental frequencies, damping coefficients) with actual test results.

  • Assist in planning and budgeting for future programs and projects.

  • Design, assemble, and test mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) for integration and test activities.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Space Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in design and testing environments related to CAD, mechanical FEM analysis, and design.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams and/or groups, driving projects forward.

  • Experience within ESA projects.

  • Good knowledge of the ECSS.

  • Expertise with CREO, Catia, NX, or similar. CREO is the tool we use.

  • Proficiency in FEM analysis, particularly in random vibration response, shock, and loads analysis.

  • Ability to generate, read, and understand mechanical design/analysis reports and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).

  • Clear and coherent reporting and presentation skills in English.

  • Experience in design-to-manufacture processes.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

  • Located in or willing to relocate to Stockholm, Sweden.

Added Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing test procedures for vibration and shock.

  • Experience in requirements management and verification.

  • Proficiency with NASTRAN/Altair

  • Experience with CREO and/or NX (CAD) and Windchill PLM.

  • Experience working closely with production/MAIT.

  • Experience in GPS (Geometric Product Specifications) drawing production.

  • Knowledge of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) and experience in the space industry.

Why Join Us?

Join us and work in a dynamic, international environment with exciting collaborations across Europe, while developing your technical expertise from mechanical design to system engineering. Be part of a dedicated team of specialists in systems, electrical, thermal, and AIT, contributing to the development of cutting-edge satellites. You’ll also take ownership of customer and supplier relations, gaining valuable experience in project management and high-level networking. If you feel confident that you meet the above requirements, then we are looking forward to hearing from you! 🛰️
