Do you want to work with speech technology in an international team—and help develop the next generation of text-to-speech voices?

ReadSpeaker continues to grow, and we are now looking for a Junior Computational Linguist / Junior Linguist to join our TTS (Text to Speech) team in Uppsala. This is the perfect role for someone at the beginning of their career with a relevant linguistic background and a desire to learn the full process behind developing synthetic voices.

About the Role

As a junior linguist, you will be part of an experienced and international team with colleagues in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Australia. The team in Uppsala consists of eleven people with diverse backgrounds, personalities, and language skills—but with one thing in common: we enjoy working closely together.

You will learn the entire voice development process: from recording sessions and voice talent coaching, to phonetic annotation, testing, quality assurance, and project work. You will receive a thorough onboarding and hands-on training from day one, supported by the team.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow into the role, take on more responsibility over time, and contribute to the development of more languages and voices at ReadSpeaker.

Your Responsibilities

You will, among other things:

• Participate in all steps of the voice development process
• Work with recording sessions and speaker coaching
• Perform phonetic annotation of recorded speech
• Test and quality-assure voices and languages developed internally
• Contribute to concrete development projects from the start
• Learn various tools, systems, and methods within speech and language technology
• Gradually take on more responsibility as you develop in the role

During your first year, you will have the opportunity to explore all parts of the linguistic workflow to find the area you want to specialize in.

To succeed in the role, you need:

• Relevant education in linguistics or phonetics (e.g., Language Technology, Linguistics, General Linguistics, or equivalent)
• Excellent command of English
• An interest in technology and a willingness to work with technical tools
• EU citizenship

It is also meritorious if you have:

• Fluency in any of the following languages: Italian, Arabic, Greek, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Baltic languages, or Slavic languages
• Knowledge of NLP (Natural Language Processing)
• Experience working in Linux
• Experience with regular expressions (RegEx)
• Knowledge in Visual Studio (c/c++)

Employment Details

• Location: Central Uppsala, at least 3 days/week on-site
• Start date: As agreed upon
• Scope: Full-time (part-time may be considered initially if needed)
• Travel: May occur
