The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will work on the core backend systems powering PerfectScale’s data pipeline, optimization logic, and high‑scale services. You will collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers and engineers across backend, frontend, and DevOps teams while contributing to product direction and architectural decision‑making.

Responsibilities

● Analyze and improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of backend systems, data pipelines, and distributed workflows. Collaborate with product, DevOps, backend, and frontend engineers to deliver elegant, well‑designed solutions for complex problems.

● Actively participate in incident response, including troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and implementing resilient long‑term fixes.

● Design, build, and maintain backend features end‑to‑end—from proposal and architecture through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code using engineering best practices, and ensure the same quality bar through peer code reviews.

● Build internal tools and automation that enhance performance characteristics, streamline operational processes, and reduce manual intervention. Contribute during planning and design discussions to identify challenges, risks, technical unknowns, and optimization opportunities early.

● Improve the overall health of the codebase; contribute to refactoring efforts, reduce technical debt, and uphold scalable architecture patterns. (We dedicate one day each week to engineering housekeeping.)

Mandatory Qualifications

● Strong proficiency in backend development with 6+ years of experience (Go/Java/Rust/Python).

● 3+ years of commercial Golang experience.

● Experience building and operating distributed systems, high-load services, or data pipelines.

● Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, including performance tuning and schema design.

● Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, Git-based workflows).

● Strong communication skills in English.

Merit/Nice to Have

● Production experience with Kubernetes.

● Production experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

● Experience with data engineering technologies such as streaming/batch processing, Spark, Trino, Iceberg, ClickHouse, or Parquet.
