As a Senior Engineer in the Smooth Operator squad, you will drive end-to-end delivery of scalable, reusable systems that power Spotify’s content and catalog operations.
You’ll put your T-shaped skill set to work across the stack
- building intuitive internal tools, implementing robust backend workflows, and shaping platform capabilities that advance moderation, IP protection, and catalog quality.
Your work directly supports Spotify’s mission to ensure a safe, high-quality content ecosystem for creators, partners, and listeners.
What You’ll Do
- Build Operational Tooling:
- Design, implement, and iterate on internal user interfaces and content-management tools that improve visibility, streamline review workflows, and support compliance and provider self-service.
- Deliver Robust Backend Workflow Execution:
- Develop reliable, auditable orchestration of complex content actions—such as takedowns, geoblocking, relocations, and metadata adjustments—across multiple backend systems and services.
- Integrate Across Domains:
- Consolidate actioning logic, evolve shared workflows, and enable moderation and review support for emerging content types by integrating with existing platforms and backend systems.
- Drive Technical Quality:
- Champion engineering best practices, uphold system reliability and performance standards, and contribute to architectural decision-making across the squad.
- Collaborate and Influence:
- Partner closely with product, design, data science, legal, and operations to define requirements, shape roadmaps, and deliver solutions that meaningfully improve content operations at scale.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience as a full stack engineer building and maintaining production systems.
- Experienced in designing and developing backend applications in Java.
Deep proficiency in React, and TypeScript and are passionate about delivering end-to-end experiences and software architecture across the front-end, back-end, and the APIs that glue them together
- You are fluent with modern cloud/platform tooling (preferably
GCP:
GKE, Pub/Sub, managed storage)
- Strong system-design, problem-solving, and debugging skills, with an ability to navigate ambiguity and break down complex problems.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and cross-functional partnership skills.
- Experience in content moderation, operational tooling, or trust and safety systems is a plus.
