Work assignments
This research position is a two-year postdoc. The applicant is expected to submit a brief two-year research plan focusing on contemporary or historical perspectives. It is possible to write the application in connection to existing research projects at Child Studies or to develop research on already available materials from projects. The position can involve both qualitative and quantitative research. The research work will be conducted in close collaboration with other researchers at Child Studies. The applicant is expected to have compelling collaborative skills and contribute creatively and constructively to the interdisciplinary international research environment at Child Studies.
The position includes collegial participation in Child Studies’ seminar activities, meetings, to take initiative to invite guests and write research applications. At Child Studies we strongly emphasise office attendance for the purpose of the collective scientific community.
As postdoc, your main task is to conduct research. It also includes a maximum of 20% teaching. The teaching may be carried out as part of the international online Masters’ program in Child Studies, in independent Child Studies courses, or in other courses where Child Studies is involved.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
A requirement is that you have documented scientific expertise in child and childhood studies, child and youth studies, educational sciences, or another subject related to research with and about children and youth.
Of particular merit for the position is documented expertise in applying theoretical perspectives or methods that offer new and/or challenging approaches to children, young people, childhood, and youth.
Of merit is documented expertise in analyzing empirical material with the purpose to understand societal issues from the perspective of children and childhood.
Of merit is demonstrated skills in writing a research plan where the feasibility within a given timeframe can be assessed as good.
The duties require that the applicant has good proficiency (both spoken and written) in either English or Swedish. If the holder’s primary language is Swedish, the applicant still needs to be able to perform satisfactorily in English (both spoken and written).
You are well-organized and can plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively.
The workplace
You will work at the Department of Thematic Studies – Child Studies. We conduct unique research combining children’s agency and social interactions with a critical and theoretical awareness of how meanings of childhood change across time and space. Child Studies offers both doctoral and undergraduate education with a focus on issues related to children and childhood. The undergraduate education includes an international Masters’ program as well as independent courses, and teacher training courses.

The employment
This employment is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension of one year up to a total maximum of three years. The employment is full-time. Starting by agreement.
