Embark is hiring a Publishing Director to join THE FINALS, our critically-acclaimed innovative online shooter. As a key stakeholder for how we present the game and speak to our audience, you have excellent instincts about what resonates with core gamers and what doesn't. You have the experience in publishing to build our first plan to be as accurate as possible, the awareness and analytical skills to know when things can be improved, and the creativity to come up with fresh ideas for our second, third, and future plans.
You will guide a publishing team comprising not only marketing, community management, customer support, release management, QA, and localization, but also product management and other live ops disciplines. To do this, you must know the principles that drive player-facing decision-making, and how we maximize our returns on both effort and spend. You have a deep understanding of the various video game publishing disciplines, but are especially versed in marketing and community-building. Knowing the gaming landscape today is dramatically different from what it was just a few years ago, you have built your toolbox for the sophisticated audience playing games now, not for those of the past.
Example of responsibilities
Lead a diverse publishing team comprising not only marketing, community management, customer support, release management, QA, and localization, but also product management and other live ops disciplines
Sync up publishing beats and development beats, and manage the two-way feedback loop to make optional choices
Propose creative solutions to development, tech, and commercial teams they wouldn’t have the market context to come up with themselves
Build strategic relationships with external partners key to our efforts to reach our audience
Constantly reevaluate the best places to invest our publishing budget, by advocating and scrutinizing KPIs
Keep your finger on the pulse of core gamer audience expectations; be able to describe the publishing strategy for adversary titles, hypothesize about their reasoning, and evaluate their success or failure
We would love if you have
8 years in the game industry, including 5+ in PC/console publishing
Owned the P&L for a game before, bonus points if free-to-play
In-depth knowledge of how PC and console distribution platforms work and how to maximize the exposure of our product on them
A background in ground-level execution of community management, influencer management, product management, or another aspect of player-facing publishing
Excellent communication skills that allow you to explain complex ideas and motivate teams through mutual understanding
A proactive, humble, and conscientious attitude, with a high sense of ownership and autonomy
A lifetime of experience playing videogames!
