The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development center. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand-new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

About the role:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated IT Data Engineer to join our IT team. In this position you will play a key role in enhancing our data integration capabilities by migrating legacy systems and developing effective data solutions.
Key responsibilities:
• Migrate Legacy System: Lead the migration from the older Java-based integration platform to a new Apache Camel-based environment, ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime.
• Solution Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand integration requirements, propose effective solutions, and develop designs that support current and future data needs.
• Develop and Implement Integration: Build and deploy integration solutions using Apache Camel to enable seamless data exchange across systems and applications.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with various departments to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor, analyze, and optimize data integrations to ensure maximum performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Documentation and Best Practices: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for developed integrations, following best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
This is a full-time, permanent position with a 6 months probationary period based at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Proven experience in data engineering, with a focus on integration and system migration.
• Proficiency in Apache Camel, Java, and data integration tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience with optimization of data solutions.
The working language of ESS is English but it would be great if you could also work in Swedish as well. For this role, we need someone who can start as soon as possible!
