In our R&D department, you will have the opportunity to delve into technical areas such as system design, control and protection, main circuit design, insulation coordination, harmonic studies, dynamic performance studies, transient studies, MMC control, and power electronics.
This includes working on various HVDC (VSC and LCC) solutions, including multiterminal solutions.
As an R&D Engineer, you will be part of the Technology & Solutions Development (Business R&D) organization in HVDC at Hitachi Energy.
You will collaborate with a diverse group of talented engineers from around the world, as we are part of a global team with offices in Sweden, India, and Germany.

How you will make an impact
- The R&D tasks will include one or more areas within the design of HVDC VSC and LCC converter topologies, control and protection, main circuit design, insulation coordination, steady-state and dynamic stability analysis, harmonic analysis, and performance under various network conditions
- Meet the constantly evolving requirements from customers, keeping both internal and external stakeholders in focus

Your background
- A Master of Science or PhD is preferred, with a major in Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives, Control Systems, Sustainable Energy, Engineering Physics, or equivalent
- A few years of work experience is preferred within HVDC or FACTS technology, but recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
- Experience with software such as MATLAB, PSCAD/EMTDC, or similar is valuable.
Previous experience in Modelica (Dymola/Open Modelica), C/C++, and Python is also a significant advantage
- We seek open-minded individuals who are receptive to diverse ideas and can collaborate to find innovative solutions to industrial challenges
- Candidates should be analytical, organized, and eager to develop the latest technology.
A natural problem solver who enjoys tackling new challenges is ideal.
Basic project management experience in planning and coordinating tasks is a plus
- As part of a company operating on a global scale, proficiency in English is required
