Arbetsbeskrivning

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following four departments: • The Department of Infectious Diseases • The Department of Microbiology and Immunology • The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology • The Department of Laboratory Medicine At present, the institute has about 340 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets In the laboratory of Davide Angeletti at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology we study basic mechanisms of B and T cell immunity upon influenza infection. Great focus is placed on mucosal immune responses in the upper respiratory tract. We are now recruiting a researcher with extensive experience in modern technologies used to study immune responses, including single-cell RNASeq, advanced mouse models and multicolor flow cytometry to contribute to the ongoing projects on mucosal immunity to influenza infections. Duties  The researcher will be working within our laboratory and is expected to independently plan and execute their research project. The experimental work will include extensive in vivo mouse work: this will include influenza infections, vaccinations and cell transfer. Great experimental focus will be placed on mucosal tissues in the upper respiratory tract (lungs and nasal tissue). The researcher is expected to harvest these tissues from animals and prepare viable immune cells for further analysis. The researcher will then characterize immune responses with focus on adaptive B and T cell immunity by multi-color flow cytometry and other established immunological methods. Furthermore, experimental work will include longitudinal monitoring of human B cell immunity across influenza seasons by single cell sequencing. Beside experimental work, the researcher is expected to train new lab members, write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and write and submit independent grant applications. Qualifications  PhD in a subject relevant for the position (i.e. immunology, virology) with extensive practical experience in immunology, specifically in studying adaptive (B and T cell) immunity in the context of viral infections and within mucosal tissues. It is a must that the candidate has experience working with mouse models of influenza infection and with in vivo and in vitro techniques to monitor adaptive immune responses. Documented experience processing upper respiratory tract mucosal tissues (lungs and nasal tissue) and analyzing B and T cells by multicolor flow-cytometry and by single-cell RNASeq is highly meritorious. Other important qualifications are excellent oral and written English language skills, publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals as first author and recent grant success. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. Employment  The employment is a permanent position, full time and placed at the the Institute of Biomedicine. Probationary employment may be applied. First day of employment: As agreed.
