The Department of Plant Biology
A position as senior lecturer in plant physiology is available at the Department of Plant Biology, at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala. SLU is located in the vibrant scientific community of Uppsala Sweden, which includes centers of excellence and world leaders in the field of molecular processes, genomics, biophysics, structural biology, evolutionary biology, ecology and plant biology. The department consists of 18 research groups and approximately 75 employees and is active within research areas focused on plant development, diversity and defense (https://www.slu.se/en/departments/plant-biology-forest-genetics/). The department provides a strong supporting and collaborative environment and hosts numerous large-scale grants including from the European Research Council, Human Frontier Science Program, Wallenberg Foundation, Novo Nordisk foundation, Swedish Research Council and Formas.
The department belongs to the Uppsala BioCenter, an excellent scientific environment combining competence in plant biology, forest mycology and pathology, microbiology, food science, chemistry and biotechnology. It also offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern plant growth facilities as well as equipment for bioimaging and molecular biology. The Uppsala region is also host to a SciLifeLab node (www.scilifelab.se), a platform for the advancement of molecular biosciences that offers access for researchers in Sweden to cutting-edge infrastructures and state of the art expertise in genomics, proteomics and microscopy.

Subject area
The subject encompasses physiological and molecular processes controlling plant growth, development and interactions with the surrounding environment.
Duties
The candidate should within the subject area:
• develop and lead internationally outstanding research
• develop, lead and participate in teaching at first, second and third cycle level
• supervise doctoral students
• collaborate with other research groups within SLU to strengthen the university's interdisciplinary activities
• develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant authorities, industries, organizations and society in general
• apply for external research funds
• contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU
• communicate research results and other relevant subject information to the surrounding community
• carry out administrative tasks within the department, the faculty and the university
Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
• PhD or have equivalent academic qualifications
• research expertise in the subject area
• teaching expertise and ability to integrate research and a scientific approach into teaching
• good knowledge of English
Assessment criteria
In the assessment criteria for employment, the primary consideration should be the level of skill required for eligibility for the position. When assessing the research expertise, the following will be assessed:
• completed and ongoing research in the subject area
• ability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding research
• ability to obtain external research funds in competition
When assessing the teaching expertise, the following will be assessed:
• planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of own teaching
• supervision and examination of doctoral students
• ability to integrate research and a scientific approach into pedagogical work
• the candidate’s pedagogical vision and personal reflection
The following skills will also be assessed:
• ability to develop and lead activities and staff within the academy
• collaborations with external stakeholders and the surrounding community
• ability to communicate research and development work
As much attention must be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise. The position will be offered to the eligible candidate who, following a qualitative comprehensive assessment is deemed to have the best qualifications set to conduct and develop the duties in question, and contribute to the positive development of the organisation.

The position is 100% financed by the department and the faculty.
