Software engineering is an increasingly critical area in the automotive industry. Volvo Cars is bringing more of the software development in-house to better handle continuous integration and the complex interactions between divergent functions. Connectivity is an enabler for most vehicle functions, including diagnostics and data collection, but also introduces privacy and cybersecurity risks that need to be managed through innovative and robust designs.

What do we do?
The Data Collection System group is responsible for developing and operating Volvo Cars’ solution to collect vehicle data over the air. The solution is designed to meet our ambitious standards for privacy compliance, flexibility, and fast response times, and we are continuously adding new capabilities to meet the expectations and increasing needs from analytics for Engineering and for new customer services.
What will you do?
Vehicle data is important for many different stakeholders within the Volvo Cars organization. As embedded SW architect for data collection, you will play a critical role in this area by leading the work to define the architecture and the SW design for a robust end-to-end data collection system that fulfills the business needs. You will be the representative of the team to our technical and architectural forums. You will ensure the robustness, compliance and performance of our embedded data collection system. Your role involves addressing complex technical challenges, working with multiple teams to deliver a technical solution that can be implemented by the team according to the car program milestones.
You will work in close collaboration with stakeholders from many parts of our company, ensuring effective communication between all stakeholders and the team. You will also support with ideas on efficient monitoring solutions for the complete data collection system and continuously identify and implement improvements of the functionality.
This role is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Volvo Cars is an office-first culture so you will be expected to work the majority of time from our office in Torslanda, Gothenburg.
Who you are?
To be right for this role we believe that you have a Master’s Degree in Computer Sciences, Electronics Engineering or similar. You have over 8+ year of experience as embedded software technical lead, over 5+ year of experience with in-vehicle communication like UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services) and XCP (Universal Measurement and Calibration Protocol), and you have good knowledge of Cloud applications and TCP/IP communication. You have at least 5+ year of coding experience in Golang, C++, Python and good understanding of vehicle electrical and electronics topology.
You have a strong background in in developing software for a variety of automotive embedded applications and operating systems, notably Linux and QNX. You have experience of guiding and mentoring team of engineers to understand complicated requirements and break them down into systematic tasks that the team can execute. You have a desire to learn continuously, share your knowledge, communicate effectively and build embedded data collection architecture in close collaboration with others. You raise the bar for technical quality, and you enjoy sharing your expertise.
As a person, you work with a prominent level of engagement and a strong enthusiasm with patience and commitment to reach your goals. You work with a team-oriented approach and have a focus on deliveries. Most of all, you have excellent communication skills and experience working with technical and project teams.
