Steering Column HW – Let’s introduce ourselves The Steering Column HW Team is part of the Deceleration & Steering Department within Vehicle Platform. We are a Centre of Excellence aiming to provide safe and robust solutions in a sustainable way, creating a stunning car experience. The Steering Column HW Team is responsible for the development, integration and verification of the Steering Column and Intermediate shaft. We are responsible to deliver a product that complies with all legal and safety requirements and satisfy our stakeholders demands, such as Passive Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, Ergonomics, NVH and more.  We are currently working with innovative technologies like the steer-by-wire systems. What you’ll do As a Design Engineer in the Steering Column HW team, you will lead and contribute to the design and development of Steering components or systems. Your primary responsibilities include conceptualizing, designing, testing, and implementing solutions that meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers, to deliver high-quality products within specified timelines. Other Responsibilities: -    Product Design: Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of Steering components or systems, considering factors such as performance, manufacturability, cost, and stakeholders requirements. -    CAD Modelling: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models of components or systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance to design specifications. -    Analysis of results: Conduct structural, thermal and environmental analyses of data from simulation tools to evaluate the performance and durability of designs and iterate as necessary to optimize performance. -    Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the prototyping process and coordinate with testing teams to validate designs through physical testing, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. -    Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers, to integrate components into vehicle systems and resolve design issues. -    Documentation: Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, test plans, and reports, to communicate design intent and facilitate manufacturing and assembly processes. -    Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement, and actively contribute to design reviews, lessons learned sessions, and knowledge sharing activities within the organization. -    Project Management: Lead or contribute to project planning and execution activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management, to ensure timely delivery of project milestones. What you’ll bring We are looking for someone with proven experience in product development within the automotive industry, specifically related to steering systems. You have experience in creating comprehensive development plans, defining testing strategies, and estimating resource efforts. You can prioritize and lead HW development activities based on project requirements and deadlines. Other requirements:  -    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. -    Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in automotive design and development, preferably within a Tier 1 supplier or automotive OEM. -    Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX) for design and analysis. -    Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards (e.g., ISO, SAE, ASTM). -    Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. -    Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts and ideas to diverse stakeholders. -    Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
